Last job I had in America was at a barbecue place called Rudy's barbecue. When I started the owners, new owners mind. Had just put everyone on a starting salary of 10 bucks an hour. With health insurance, paid vacation, and genuine benefits. We were told to refuse any tips offered, and guess what happened? The old guys who used to take tips suddenly brightened up, and took pride in all of their work, not just when they had a wealthy older couple. Everyone there started to relax and have more fun, and the customers loved the atmosphere and attitude.

We had lines out the door and down the road every day for the three years I was there. I got a raise every year. And extra vacation days too. Plus when I had a seizure most of my medical bills were covered. The place is still bumping. Employees now start on 12 bucks, and tip refusal is still a thing. Simple strategy like just paying people more works. The price point in the years I was there only went up by around 50 cents on a few menu items. And the quality never slipped. I bounced around in there as well. Went from cashier, to prep cook, to line cook, to pit man, to their catering team, and loved it.

I think the problem is we give out to non tippers for being cheap. Give out to owners for being cheap. It can, and does work. Paying your people a decent wage, providing benefits, it works. They've expanded in Austin. There's now 4 Rudys locations, and a few Mighty Fine Burgers locations too same owners, same philosophy. Living wage, full benefits, customers hanging from the ceiling. When you offer a great product (and they taste pretty damn good) people will get in line.

I'm long out of the restaurant game. And long out of living in America. I can honestly say we always felt bad hearing from other workers in other restaurants about bad tips, slow nights, and bills that have to be floated til after a busy weekend of shifts. And we were the envy of every waiter, in every chain restaurant and dive out there. The prestige that came in the community from just being paid a living wage. The ihop staff down the road wanted us all dead.

I drive uber on weekends when I need some cash or want to have some fun (gets me out of the house and meeting cool people) here is why I think you should tip-
I will stop places like gas stations or stores and wait a bit for you if you tip
I will help with luggage etc I do this stuff to be kind and get good reviews but rewarding me with a tip is just classy in return

Also keep in mind after we uber drivers cover our expenses for fuel insurance more frequent oil and tire changes and of course taxes we don't tend to make much on these trips and we are not starbucks here folks same goes for tipping your waitress or waiter where I live they make half the minimum wage the tips help get them by

How much would I have to tip you to learn how to use punctuation?

Not convincing. You want more money for doing the same shit that pays less. Everyone does. Guess what - I want more money for doing what I do too. I can ask for more, and that's my right. But in the end, there's a reason that Uber beat out cabs - it was cheaper. Tipping complicated cab driving. People preferred Uber. And Lyft fucking sucks, despite the fact you can tip. Lyft is for drivers who get kicked out of Uber.

When Uber starts letting cab drivers shame riders into tipping, it will be the end that the taxi lobby has been planning and waiting for since 2009.

I think the lesson to be learned here is...KK has seizures with the BBQ...and all of you are still a bunch of cheap fucks.

I can confirm that Lyft indeed sucks. Everytime I tried it I'd get stuck with some noob who didn't know how to get to the airport.

I would prefer that these jobs just paid their employees properly, but its not like i can change the rules, ...
Maybe you can. Don't use their services, if you feel that their employees aren't treated well enough. I only go to little family owned restaurants where the owners get their own hands dirty. Haven't eaten anything from McDonalds in almost 15 years. I don't shop at Amazon, either. Actually, I try to boycott as many "hire and fire" companies as I can.

Can't tell. Were you trying to make fun of my opinion? I know for a fact that the dude who owns all (but the one that his ex got when they divorced) of our local McDonalds restaurants is a dick who doesn't have any respect for his employees. None. I used to work for Burger King when I first went to Uni. Wasn't much better.
Amazon has a hub in a town that is ~80km from where I live. A friend (former co-worker from my BK days) used to work there. I heard stories and have no reason not to believe him. Besides, it's a well known fact that Bezos wants to get rid of as many employees as he can.

I'm glad that Uber wasn't as successful as they hoped when they tried to expand to Germany a few years back. Walmart gave up, too. Thankfully.

Whenever I sense that employees aren't treated with respect (and paying less than minimum wage so that those employees have to rely on tips is a prime example for not giving a shit about your workforce), then I try my best to spend my money elsewhere or look for other solutions. Like ... walking.

Part of the reason why many of us are against TTIP and CETA. Fuck that shit. 2007/08 was bad enough.

Whilst I can agree with your sentiment, I don't agree with your actions. It's the workers themselves who should be walking if they want to make a real change. Don't like it? Don't work there.

From my experience McDonalds seem to treat staff fairly well considering what you need to bring to the table to work there.
