So, my favorite movie franchise of all time is Alien. The first movie is an all time classic. I've seen it probably 50 or 60 times. Love Aliens. I even really enjoy Alien 3. Prometheus is also one of my favorite movies, too. Don't get me started on Resurrection or the AvsP films. Blech
But then here comes Alien: Covenant. What a shit load of fuck.
And here's the part that infuriates me the most. This film was made for someone like me. Someone that follows all the films with such devotion, such as myself. I knew every nod, every easter egg that the film showed me. AND I DIDN'T CARE. It took a favorite character of mine from the series and ruined it. David was just so cringe-worthy in this. The CGI was crap (and I never complain about that). I always find it a silly, elitist nerd complaint to say, but this film's CGI was horrible. Like, what year is it? Unbelievable.
Not a single character is noteworthy. They don't explain diddly squat. The movie just starts with people in peril, and you don't know who they are or care. Even when it starts to almost sorta/kinda flesh people out, it doesn't. You pretty much HAVE to see the youtube videos before this to even get half a sense as to who they are and what's going on.
Then there's all the things they do with the xenomorphs. I don't want to get into spoilers, but one scene where David looks down on his "creation" and extends his arms... I wanna vomit. Just fucking vomit.
Way to ruin the whole series for me, Ridely effing Scott. Bravo.
