Guidelines:
  • Assume the same number of built-in games as the NES Classic Edition (30).
  • Assume that licensed games, e.g. Turtles in Time, are out.
  • Assume SuperFX games are out, because they have been on every other re-release platform.

Here is my best guess (not my wish list):
  • ActRaiser
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Darius Twin
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
  • F-Zero
  • Final Fantasy II (IV)
  • Final Fantasy III (VI)
  • Final Fight
  • Gradius III
  • Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
  • Kirby's Dream Course
  • Kirby's Dream Land 3
  • Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Mega Man X
  • Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
  • Pac-Attack
  • Pilotwings
  • Secret of Mana
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Vegas Stakes

I think I may have too many third party games, but I am not sure what other first/second party stuff is possible.

If they can't get any of the special chips, then it'll be a real challenge to get to 30. I was going by the fact that they have released an emulated version before.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Speaking of licensing, figured some may not know this.

Zombies Ate my Neighbors, along with Ghoul Patrol and Metal Warriors were made by LucasArts, now a dead company. The licensing there most likely belongs to Disney now.

Yes, Metal Warriors is by LucasArts, not Konami, despite what a lot of collectors today think.

Are people confusing Metal Warriors with Cybernator (that Konami did publish)?

Not that I know of. Konami did publish Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Metal Warriors, in a way that gave Konami most of the profits, but they are 100% LucasArts games, they're not in-house Konami games at all.

Technically, Ghoul Patrol is by Motion Pixel under direction from LucasArts (published by JVC), but it uses the same engine as ZAMN and Metal Warriors so it may as well be included.

Excellent article about it here:

The point is, given the death of LucasArts and Disney's ownership of LucasFilm, I would be very surprised if any of the LucasArts catalog makes it onto the SNES Mini, or any other Nintendo platform ever again.

I'm pretty sure the rights are a mess for Turtles stuff.

Sports are gonna be real tricky since they primarily went licensed.

I think we will see at most 2 games from Square.

Also as much as the SNES was an amazing RPG platform, I don't anticipate more than 2 on there. They're not making these for enthusiasts after all.

Given who Nintendo licensed third party games from with the original NES Classic Edition, plus considering which were the most popular, best selling games, and considering which games don't use special chips or are tied up with licensing rights, I'm thinking:

Axelay
Crono Trigger
Contra 3
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Earthbound
F-Zero
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fight
Gradius 3
Kirby Super Star
Kirby's Dream Course
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Mega Man 7
Mega Man X
Pilotwings
Secret of Mana
Street Fighter 2 Turbo
Super Castlevania IV
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario World
Super Metroid
Super Punchout
UN Squadron
Zelda Link to the Past

You mean RPG enthusiasts...the lowest form of gamer there is. I hope there are no RPGs at all, fuck that shit genre.

Some people don't distinguish between publisher and developer.

Cybernator (Assault Suits Valken) was developed by NCS Masaya and was published by Konami in the west.

Metal Warrior was developed by LucasArts and published by Konami.

It would be nice to see one of the capcom brawlers included in the built in games.

It would be great if they included Earthbound. Although not a first party game, was well regarded and a bit of a rarity these days.

Not a first party game? Who the hell do you think made it? It was developed by Nintendo, HAL Laboratory and Ape Inc. Those last two are owned by Nintendo, Ape Inc. was reformed into Creatures Inc for Pokemon. People call Kirby games first party all the time and those were exclusively by HAL.

I did not realise Nintendo had a hand in the production. You learn something new everyday.

I would hope they don't pull a dick move like putting Super Mario World and Super Mario All Stars as separate games. I would also go so far as to assume that any games released on Wii VC are a possibility, even if they had special chips. That means SA-1, S-DD1, DSP-1, and CX4 games are good to go. Too bad Super FX games probably won't make it in. That'd be an opportunity for Star Fox 2 to be released, since I think there's a final version that exists (assuming Argonaut even gives them the okay for it).
