Let's post up our displays each night, to gather a pool of ideas.

I remember falling short a few nights last year, and phoning it in.

If a few of us post a few each over the course of the month-we can get 24 cool scenes worth, without *individually* having to come up w/ 24 brilliant concepts. ^_^

I'll go first:

My wife has every night, 8 years worth. I'll see if I can grab a few of the best. 2 nights ago he was choking out a huge Abomination action figure.

We've done it every year since my daughter was born. This is the first day so I just put them in common places. I start making it harder for her to find them as it gets closer to Christmas.

Great idea and reminds me I need to dig the elf out before my daughter starts getting suspicious.

I think you all should probably just elf yourselves.

Totally phoning it in tonight; I'm exhausted.

R.E.M. is playing in my head...wish I could get to bed...gardening at night.

Huh, I never knew this was a tradition, or even a thing. Interesting.

(if you have children)

You get an Elf. (no one knows how; he just shows up)
Your children name him.
Every night he flies to the North Pole and tells Santa how you're behaving.
Your children tell him what they want for Christmas (letters, or verbally).
They can't touch him or he loses his abilities and becomes just a stuffed doll.
Each morning the kids get up to see the Elf has moved; the mad search begins for where he is now.
Ours arrives on Thanksgiving Eve each year and he leaves on Christmas Eve. He's been coming for 8 years.

To make kids think that Santa is watching them.

Santa isn't watching; he's at the North Pole, advising the worker elves. This elf is a messenger elf. Santa receives direct reports. Sound like you don't hear the bell anymore :/

OK, but that's just semantics. If the FBI is outside my house in a white van watching my neighbor, then he can rightfully say that the government is watching him. This elf on the shelf is an integrated part of Santa's intelligence network, and as such Santa is watching your kids.

This might actually be dumber than telling kids Santa Claus is a real person.

... Then again, just the sight of that doll might scare them into behaving. Does it have to be an elf? Can it be a Five Nights at Freddy's character?

Anything to try to get the kids to behave.

Not necessarily.

That's like saying the only reason to decorate lights on your house, is so that Santa can find it in the dark.

Horse feathers.

This is just a fun holiday tradition.

:thevt:

Not everyone's white bearded uncle raped them on family occasions, maybe some people's lives don't have to be as desolate as yours.

Loving it guys, might have to introduce this at my place.
