Yeah I agree. It should specify if it's AES or MVS on the label. Maybe you can't add the neo geo logo tho due to copyright issues.

Man, the anticipation is killing me. Anybody in the Midwest get theirs yet? It's still showing as 'accepted' for me, with no updates on their website since 11/21.

A regular AES cart fits just fine in a shockbox, and so will his repo shell as I assume the dimensions are exactly the same.

Ah, did not know that, never had a reason to put an AES cart in a shockbox which is probably why. Good to know though, thanks for the info.

Those labels look awesome, that was more what i was hoping for. I like the first one, and the first magician lord one quite a bit.

I must say that after this post (even though I admit some of these mockups look interesting):

I very much understand what alienpdx means:
I have on purpose stayed away from copy pasting random snk artwork or deviant-art fan art , as i simply dont want to 'steal' stuff for it on a sticker. [...] thats not my style. hope u understand! The design is about neosd and not snk or something, the MS tank is just a little homage.

Can't wait to see how the final sticker will turn out. A homage combined with an original take (in the spirit of the NeoSD) sounds perfect. You're on the right track!

P.S.:
The question whether there should or should not be two different stickers for MVS/AES is up to the NEOSD team. I don't see a problem if there is only one version - if you're not sure just take a brief look at the edges, they're different enough (and you can't fit an MVS games PCB into a homesystem).

Besides: who doesn't take care of their €400 carts? FFS.... Oh wait, I forgot what site I'm on (3 season porch Garou homecart or gtfo!). Carry on. :keke:

Hello,

I think that both stickers should be different, maybe just an small difference such as one having AES and anohter having MVS in a corner or something like that, but this is just my opinion and at the end of the day we have infinite faith in alien, so it dosent matters at all.

I know you guys may not understand that but we have a proud feeling just having alien doint it.
Big part of this product has been done by nostalgia, love from old times, and alien works bring us back those moments.

Alien, so many good moments for so many years mate, big fun at mups

its a good idea, especially if you buy both the MVS & AES carts they are distinctly different even if its minor

Just FYI. I'd like to share with all of you my results testing the NeoSD MVS with other .neo files different from those 'officially' recognized by NeoBuilder UI v1.02, 'handmade' converted from their original .zip romsets using NeoBuilder v1.05 command-line. Find below game lists showing the format actual game name -> .zip/.neo romset filename = working status.

Setting:
- Consolized Neo-Geo MVS MV-1F, RGB video output
- UniBIOS 3.2 Free
- NeoSD-MVS firmware version: 1.05 R02

_________________________________________________________________________

* Neo-Geo Extra Games:

- Last Hope (Bootleg AES to MVS conversion, no coin support) -> lasthope = Blocked. Returns to hardware test mode.
- Last Hope CD (NG-CD to AES Beta Conversion) -> lhcdb = Imperfect graphics.
- Robo Army (Set 2) -> roboarma = OK
- Saulabi Spirits / Jin Saulabi Tu Hon (Korean release of Samurai Shodown II) (Set 2) -> samsho2k2 = OK

It seems that maybe a great number of homebrew could have been developed considering emulators instead of the real system, hence the flaws most of them present on it when played via NeoSD.

Please, feel free to share your impressions, suggestions or results with your own .neo extra/homebrew collection! Thanks!

Question for neosd/dev and Raz, about the (theoretical) possibility for a feature rich game selector, beyond just ROM names and a screenshot.

Let's say for a second that the ultimate front-end should show at least game cover/artwork, cart sticker, game title/screenshot, game information.

Sounds this would be too much for the GUI? (don;t know ..is the GUI data in the same flash used for games, with a reserved address space? could it be expanded?)
If not, would it be possible to create an application (homebrew ROM) that could show such amount of data at will *and* allow to flash a selected game (I guess I'm asking for "in-game flashing" feature)

Another but related question, given the neo2pc concept, would that be possible to create a serial over TCP/IP COM module? I guess it would be possible to use arduino to encapsulate/handle the serial comms from the joystick port, even trough wireless.
I'm thinking about a very small app (again, homebrew ROM) that would be capable of loading content from a server (i.e. highly compressed images for the game selector)... or upload data (i.e. highscores)

Just curious...networking sounds could open few possibilities.

The UI program lives in a reserved area of the flash. The space reserved for the UI is 1MB of program and 512KB of graphics data. In your approach, the main issue is stuffing all that data in the reserved graphics area, it's just not enough for what you need, but yes, it would be possible to create a 'game' that can access the sd data and flash a game. The issue there is that you'll have to flash 2 games, first the launcher and then the game, in order to load a game, and that would cause extra wear to the flash.

The other issue to take into account is the NeoGeo resolution. You are quite limited there also.

- Treasure of the Caribbean (Prototype) (2011) -> totc = OK

What is this? I have never heard of an untouched totc prototype being out there. Or is this just another fake proto attempt?

............(edited list as its long).........

Wow, a lot of homebrew titles there that I never knew existed. Is there a single place where these can be obtained, or is that collection an accumulation over the years?

One or two of the glitches there might be due to the fact the ROM has never run on an actual Neo Geo? Sometimes homebrew is developed and tested in an emulator and the net result is small glitches / timing issues when running on actual hardware. That said, I am sure as time goes on and further investigation takes place that where there are problems they can probably be resolved.

It's garbage, just like the TotC release. The build tools signature is from Oct 5, 2011 in that totcarib romset.

That's some old stuff!!! I don't know if I even have the files anymore. The greenish display issue is due to palette color 0 needing to be black since it's the reference color for the video circuit. Something that's easily fixed and can be patched in the existing roms.

Beast demo - I used more than 96 sprites per horizontal line in that one. This limitation wasn't apparent back in the early emulator days when this demo was written. I did have a new version that had these issues corrected and even the beast player that you could run around with, but lost that version in a HDD crash.

I also have a version of Columns where I fixed the palette issue, changed the right hand column around on the title screen (nobody has ever noticed it's facing the wrong way) and some added sounds. I did this back when we were working on MVS Tracker and trying to hammer out a sound driver to use in that tool. I wonder if I still have this version of Columns somewhere...

Thank you all for your interest in my lists! Hope this help developers and to envision the current Neo-Geo homebrew scenario, apart from indie commercial releases.

What is this? I have never heard of an untouched totc prototype being out there. Or is this just another fake proto attempt?

I think totc and totcarib are actually the same, just different romset names from different sources.

Wow, a lot of homebrew titles there that I never knew existed. Is there a single place where these can be obtained, or is that collection an accumulation over the years?

Some of them were in my romset collection from NeoRage old times, but I got some info and downloads at:
**Can we talk about this in a PM? Because Rot is watching me...**(Note that it also includes Neo-Geo CD homebrew.)

In other cases, they can be easily found on the typical ROM-hosting sites. Anyway, I can share my homebrew collection if allowed (I think so, as it's freeware).

Glad to read you about your own developments! So interesting valuable info... Thank you very much for such releases & keep up the good work! Hoping to see that corrected versions running on real hardware! :)

EDIT: BEFORE we start on the double standards thing... at least there was password protection... etc etc...
