I got an mv-1 recently and was finally able to turn it on today. Unfortunately im having some issues. In the top left corner of my PVM it seems to be distorted as if its a sync issue or something. Even worse with Magical Drop 3 or Metal Slug 3 inserted I either get strange colors or garbled grahpics.

turning the system on with no cart:

how it looks with magical drop 3:

The weird thing is that metal slug x seems to be fine but it still has the bendy issue at the top left part of the screen like in the first pic:

im also getting pretty bad audio buzz. Any one know what the problem could be? I thought maybe i just got busted games cause metal slug x seems to work ok... but even with no cart in the system i still get that weird interference at the top left. any ideas?

Try adjusting H-Hold on the PVM and clean your MD3 cart.

i meant to post this in neo geo tech support but oh well i guess. im sorry but how do you adjust h-hold on the pvm? does that involve messing with the pots? sorry for the dumb question.

posted this in the general tech support by accident...

edit: update metal slug x has issues as well that arent immediately noticeable. so im pretty sure its the board or some weird sync issue with my pvm but i doubt it. all my other systems work fine on it.

You should check your PSU's voltage, make sure it's at or slightly above 5.00 volts. A good way to check is by using a volt meter on an electrolytic cap far away from the JAMMA edge. You'd have to take the board apart or use the underside and know exactly where the caps are.

Also looks like some problems with the palette RAM, maybe corroded/bridged traces or bad RAMs...

If the above aren't feasible right now, you should reset the backup RAM. I think you flip all the hard DIPs on and power up the MVS board. It will run a RAM test for you as well.

the supergun says its getting 5.05. i tested the molex and was getting 5v and 12v on the proper pins... I tried the ram test thing and the ram test did come up but when I tried pressing any buttons nothing happened. Also how exactly are you supposed to wire this PSU? http://imgur.com/a/VDFNH I assumed i wired it correctly because I checked with the multi meter and was getting the correct voltages on the molex connector... but maybe i did it wrong. I gotta get new screw terminal connectors now too. Assuming I messed up the wiring on the screw terminals but was getting the correct readings on the molex, would that mess up the board/carts? Also I thought FG was ground for the power cord but I think im wrong.

Yes FG is ground on AC power cables. If your cable isn't polarized then it doesn't really matter which way hook up the AC /N and AC /L lines. I'm not too familiar with AC, you can always check run a google search on the issue.

Here's how I wired my Happ PSU using a grounded AC cable:

alright thanks man. what about the ram test? is flipping the dip switches all up enough to clear the ram or are you actually supposed to make it run? I saw the ram test option in the menu but nothing seemed to be happening.

Nothing changes on the Work RAM Test screen unless it fails. You have to run it for about 10 minutes. IIRC, the Backup RAM is cleared when you use Work RAM Test by flipping on all the hard DIPs.

Back to the picture curl issue. The 20L5 doesn't play nice with Neo Geo for some reason.

I have 2x AES and 2x 20L5. Always the same curl at the top. Same thing with an Omega CMVS via RGB as well. If someone could figure this out, it would be amazing.

Here's what I know:
There appears to be no H-HOLD adjustment possible on the 20L5, either via OSD or manual pot.
I recapped my both my AES because they are 1st gen with the wrong caps.
Before I did the recap, all my monitors had the curl issue.
Every other monitor I have tried (at least 5 different models) is fine after the recap, except the 20L5.
Adding a sync stripper to the SCART cable had no effect.
NGCD is immune to the problem. It only affects AES and MVS.
Every other console I own works perfectly with the 20L5.
