Long Story short lads... and pseudo lassies...

A customer put a Mac Mini on pawn... he subsequently lost it...

I tried to reset it... but the fookin coont had put an EFI password on it... 6 digits...

SO, I brought an EFI password haxxor... it basically just keeps pumping in codes until it finds the right one:D

OK... so i read the manual... it's gonna take upto 175 days:D (That's close to 6 months)...

I HATE being bummed over by a customer:D

Well, it's a good learning experience.
Don't let customers pawn anything that can be password locked unless they give you the password. (this goes for phones too, I guess.)
Also, I'd recommend don't accept hard drives unless you can format them (get the customer to sign off on that in the pawn agreement).

Also, 175 days is the worst case scenario. You have a 50% chance it'll be done in 3 months!

We had the password to get onto the OS... BUT... we forgot to ask for the firmware password...

As you said... it's a learning curve... BLOODY sneaky customers:p

I might make a pool and see who's closest to guessing how many days this is gonna take:D

UP FOR GRABS... some random prize:D

PS. The process started today... 9 July 2016:D

How much porn was on the computer?

Oddly enough... I never actually check peoples personal stuff... it just doesn't interest me...

I just want the item reset... and sold...

I bet 77 days.

OK... Whoever guesses closest will get a random parcel full of gaming stuff and a Custom made Neo Geo Stick (Pics of the Joystick will follow)...

That fuckin' sucks. Is there no other way around it?

Chip removal & replacement?

EDIT: if there's prizes to be won, then I'm in. 64 days.

There is a way... you send it off to some random fook... who will charge you £100GBP for a new chip (thus voiding the Apple cover... so once I can haxxor it... there's NO way Apple will touch it:()...

This does NOT include postage either way... hence about £140 GBP...

The haxxor cost me £160GBP and I get to keep it:D

OH... btw... pics of the custom joypad up for grabs:

(Unsure if it's still working... I haven't plugged it in in like 4 years:D)

PS. ALSO... I'll fill the parcel with random gaming shizzle...

Yeah, not worth it. I'm sure that chip is a $5 part.

Don't you have Apple stores over there? They should be able to just nuke and reset the whole machine if you can prove that you own it. (You've got a receipt from when the guy brought it in, right?)

Why are people such dick bags? I bet you meet some real winners in the pawn business.

I'm guessing 111 days.

Err... Apple don't tend to accept Pawn agreements as proof of ownership...

ALSO... other risks are:

A) The customer has claimed it lost and it gets put on a stolen database with the serial number...
B) It was actually stolen in the first place and the customer just had the password to get into the OS...

I am NOT risking £200GBP of the money I lent the fuckwit... for Apple to take it off me OR report me to the Po Po... (no matter how slim the chances are...)

Random number off the top of my head 52 days. In all honesty I love to guess even without the prizes.
