Confirmed Boot. You can see the reasoning in my post here.

Here's the seller's story:

Hello
This is a long story.
During 2008 - 2010 I worked for Ignition entertainment as a localization specialist. I helped with the localization of King Of Fighters xii ( Sorry guys, we did the best with what we were given) I had to collaborate with SNK Playmore quite a bit and that meant many trips to Japan. During from 2000 - 2012 I was strictly an mvs collector. Well one of the many people I had to work with heard about that. One of the project leads heard about it and asked me if I wanted to buy his ssvs proto from him... it was just 2 circuit boards mind you. But when I looked at it I was surprised.. I had never seen boards that small in a mvs case.... ( my first thought was boot) but he swore that it was an early board that's why it looks like this. So I bought it and slapped it in a used shell and made a sticker for it.

So we've seen small board boots before, but this one is unlike the ones I have seen before (as far as layout). This could very well be some sort of prototype.

Thoughts?

Saw this as well, but it looks pretty boot-y to me. Why wouldn't they use proper SNK-P boards and eproms?

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. The katakana on those stickers is making my decision doubtful though. I don't think anyone would go through the effort to put some script on stickers and put them on the roms just to pass it off as a proto.

You don't?

That's exactly what someone trying to pass off a boot as a proto would do.

LOL. Nice try. Really. I mean, better than some of the shit we've read from NGF, but really? Some dude sells you his proto? Why? Why not just straight up give it to you? Those are dime a dozen when a project ships. Why is it using the same cheap flash you see on every boot and multi cart that's released? Why not just fake this shit right and put on EPROMS and sockets? I mean if you're going to fake something.

Wish these scammers actually knew anything about Neo stuff so we'd have a real thread/what if on our hands. Fuck this bootleg bought from Alibaba and being passed as a proto.

Alright, so I got a reply from the seller. He did not provide me with pics as he says the plastic clips on the top keep the boards together, but there was another question I asked him that hit the nail on the head. I asked him if the sound glitch that is persistent in the rom that is readily available for download anywhere on the net happened in the game. I did not tell him that the sound glitch was in the rom, just told him how to replicate it. He confirmed that the sound glitch is there which means that this is a bootleg and not a prototype version.

Even a blind man can see that it's clearly a boot from the boards alone.

I am in the market for a cheap SSVS cart. I may buy some random SSVS "prototype" in the future to save on cash. :lolz:

Maybe you can just buy the insert for SSVS?

SSVS isn't that rare. Watch your tongue, boy... or I'll start posting fursuit foot fetish pics in all your threads. :p

Is it ok for me to say "I'm just busting your balls" or is that considered offensive? :keke:

Certainly a boot, but at the end he does say it could be a proto or "fantastic eeprom job." I would think any serious proto collector would know that's not real, so hopefully the price doesn't get insane, but these days who knows. It's enough to fool a noob who doesn't know any better.

Can you clarify this a little bit?
As in, the sound glitch is commonly found in the released version?

Also, just curious, but are there in fact bootlegs of SS5S out there? (personally I have seen them for SS5, but not for SS5S)

The problem is, this particular item has quite a bit of range in its appeal so regardless of it being a fake, it will fetch healthy money for these reasons:

-- last game released for the neogeo
-- extremely rare & expensive to buy an original
-- extremely difficult to build a bootleg cart yourself.
(if even possible to be honest?)
-- unique small boards make people curious

Again, real or not, if it works right (albeit sound glitch?) it's still worth money.
