The most I've spent was a sunfaded jpn. Metal Slug... for a mint Blazing Star home cart. No regrets.

There is a way to keep the golden mean, though: accepting temporality. You hold on to it till it's time to let go, meanwhile researching for other exciting stuff you didn't have tried out yet and end up buying with the money you gained from the last sell. A collector as a central station for his collectibles? Why not, your console's slot already is one.
