So, my willem programmer that I have had for 5 years is finally dying on me, so I need a replacement. I have seen these TL866CS USB programmers on ebay for reasonably cheap, but idk if I can use an adapter to do the bigger eproms, primarily 27c160 and 27c322. Can anyone confirm this for me before I buy?

If the programmer supports both 8bit and 16bit modes then it will cover the 160(8/16) and the 322(16).

Hello all,

http://www.autoelectric.cn/MiniPro/MiniProSupportList.txt
I've the same programmer, cheap and working great, i don't know about 27c160 and 27c322. Don't forget to upgrade firmware using the software provided (last version 6.50 i think)

Read my post #693. You can program a 27c160 by modifying the pinout and using a jumper for the extra address pins. (Btw 27c160 will never be directly supported as it has more pins than the programmer supports).

27c200,27c400,27c800 etc could be....

-> But the GQ-4X is better and have more adapter available on factory website (http://www.mcumall.com/). I've this one in the past.

With eprom burners you really get what you pay for.
In my opinion you can either get a:

- TL866CS for ~$40 shipped, really good 40pin programmer but does not support the bigger eproms like the 42pin 27c322
- GQ-4X for ~$100 supports a few more chips through adapters you have to buy extra
- or buy a higher end model like the top3100 (or similar) for around $200

So you have to decide if you want to spend 2-3 times the money just for a few more supported eproms. It really depends on which chips you need to program.
You should make a list of all the eproms you need to program and compare what programer supports them all and what adapter you might need to buy.

That enables/disables the capacitor directly underneath the jumper. I removed the capacitor as it caused instability when programming eproms. I have the adapter before they made it with the jumper.

I've had issues with my GQ-4X and 16bit adapter with any eprom, the way I fixed it was to make sure that the Eprom was all the way to the right when inserted into the ZIF. Also I've had the software tell me that the write failed at 0% so I restarted the program and reseated the eprom and it wrote just fine 100%. I've never had to use a DC adapter when programming ST M27C322's with my GQ-4X, but I have it plugged into the USB port on the back of the computer. I haven't used it on the front ports or through a USB hub, which I've read requires you to use a DC adapter.
