This game uses a specific 44 pin connector and was missing the flat cables between the 2 boards. First thing to do was to build a converter (to JAMMA) and take the cables from another known working game:

The symptoms were, OOOO on screen, bad colours and no sound:

Compared all the EPROMS with the MAME romset and found 3 faulty ones (N°23, 24 & 26). Replacing them restored the sound.

Then found a dead LS74 @ 11A on the top board. Colours changed:

Found no activity on data lines of RAM IC52: dead LS157 @ 16B on bottom board. Sprites restored:

Found no activity on address lines A0 to A7 of EPROMs 27C64 IC89 & 91: dead LS273 @ 6E on bottom board. Background restored:

Game repaired.

(The label was attached to the top board when I got the game. It says "Karate, no back ground just OOOO, works".)

[EDIT]
The game is from 1984 but for some reason I can't edit the title.

Kickass! I'll have a look around, maybe I have the ribbon cable connectors around somewhere, can't quite remember...

Now go and punch a bull in the nuts :D

Yeah thanks.
It also misses the spacers between the 2 boards.
BTW you should come and visit us some day and have a try at this game.
The gameplay is a bit weird at the beginning (you have to maintain the "action" button until the end of the move).
Plus the game was made to be used with 2 joysticks so the instructions on screen (e.g. when you train) make no sense when you play with on a 4 buttons config.

I need that jamma adapter! Name your price. ^_^
Shipping costs from NZ are deal breakers IMO.
It's simple to build one, you need a 44 pin connector (2 * 22 pin, 3.96mm pitch), a JAMMA fingerboard, wires and one hour of your free time.
Concerning the right joystick I've mapped it this way:
- DOWN = A
- UP = B
- LEFT = C
- RIGHT = D
If you use a NGCD controller it makes more sense to map them like that:
- DOWN = A
- UP = D
- LEFT = C
- RIGHT = B

[EDIT]
Please also note this game requires -5V.

Thanks for the info. Can't wait to get this running in my NAC.

Cheers!
