The last Nintendo portable I owned was the original gameboy when it came out ages ago.

I have pretty much paid no attention to Nintendo portables since then.

I'm not interested in RPG's, I want something you can pick up and play for 30min -1hr.

Already planning on getting Mario Kart 7, what else is out there?

New Super Mario Bros 1 and 2. Luigi's mansion is pretty cool.

Shovel knight, Zelda link between worlds (it's as much action as most games I wouldn't call it a typical rpg) star fox if you liked the n64 version, dlc any of the Shantae games, anything made by Nintendo really :-)

+1 for Smash.
+1 for New Super Mario 2
Hyrule Warriors Legends
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (Tons of fun, and ideally suited to small bursts of play, since it's basically Minigame: The Game)
Resident Evil: Revelations
Sega 3D Classics (Whether you're picking and choosing on the eshop, or just buying the bundle, you can't go wrong)
A Link Between Worlds
Mario Golf World Tour
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Mario 3D Land
Star Fox 64 3D
Shovel Knight
Xeodrifter
Retro City Rampage

Luigi's Mansion is awesome, I was hooked on it when I first got it. Mario 3D and the New Super Mario Bros 2 or whatever the hell it's called. I didn't really like the golf game and normally I dig the Mario golf series.

If you don't mind teh pir8, pick up a DS flash cart that works on the 3DS and use it to try the back catalog of DS games, it has an amazing catalog.

Also, Sega 3D classics. It's the best use of 3D on the system IMO. Also, if you like Ridge Racer the 3DS game is great, I don't think I've seen anyone mention it.

I can only mention what has been already.

Link between worlds is top notch. Mario 3d. NES remix. The Sega 3D games are nice.

This. The Sega 3DS Classics series is essential, buy them all twice if you have to. The ports are absolutely amazing, they even included the CRT hum from the Afterburner machine I believe.

Mario 3D Land is also incredible for a launch title, I still prefer it to Mario World Wii U. Great showcase for the 3D feature too.

PM me if you'd like a RCR code from the humble bundle.

Worth nothing that the 3DS is not region free, which was an absolute dick move on Nintendo's part. On the plus side, original DS games are and the library is stellar. For short bursts, the Taiko no Tatsujin games are great if you have a flash cart or Japanese system.

Mario 3D Land is the best Mario platformer to come out in a very long time. It's fantastic.
