Does anybody do this? I did some of it when I was in the hospital. It's mindless - it seems like it would be something women would do, or guys that are into art.

I'm thinking of doing it again.

So many questions..

Do you mean actual adult coloring books, or just taking crayons to an issue of Highlights?

Why would you think that women and artsy men would be the only ones who would do this?

Did you spend time in a Children's Hospital?

Aren't you in your 40's?

Did they think you were a pedophile? If thats the case then you prolly should hang out with bloodycelt - I'm sure NAMBLA members stick together.

"Adult coloring book" sounds so much cooler than it actually is. Like it SHOULD involve deciding which shade of maroon to use on some chicks mud flaps, but sadly it doesn't.

In all seriousness though, I've seen them at book stores. You're gonna get lit up for bringing them up, but I can see why some people would be in to that. Not my thing, but I get why they would be other peoples' thing.

My mom and my girl do adult coloring books. Some are actually pretty neat. My mom has this enchanted forest one that looks really cool. As far as I know adult coloring books are normally geometric patterns or shapes, or geometric patterns of actual items, like animals, landscapes, etc.

And it is therapeutic, we have coloring books all over our hospital, and I work in an adult hospital.

My girl has some of those books. They helped her relax a little, had them for a couple years now and some of the drawings are cool. There are a shitload of different themes also. It's pretty cool.

I've never done it, but apparently that is getting pretty popular these days. I've seen evening coloring get-togethers advertised at both of the closest libraries where I live, and one of them even leaves free coloring sheets out, right next to the free magazine stacks, to encourage it further. I'd rather draw myself, but, whatever floats people's boats. I suppose it's a good socializing activity and coloring is something that doesn't require a lot of skill, so it's accessible to people of all ages/ability.

This is genuinely one of the most idiotic and ignorant things I've read from you man.

A great way to return to a preschool state of mind for people who get triggered easily.
Make sure you stock your safe space up with plenty of crayons and play-doh too! Or something like that.

I worry a little bit that it seems adults want to retreat to childhood too much these days. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play some Nintendo.

Sounds like we have a pretty good business idea, then. For some reason I feel like an adult coloring book that featured Gelbooru-type of shit would sell well. Tentacle porn and cartoon rape. I just thing that there's a lot of overlap between adults who want to color and adults who jack off to Japanese cartoon smut.

Your libraries do it, too? Holy fuck... What is wrong with libraries? The sad thing is, I know a lot of women go to these things, and I'm tempted to go to find someone who might be girlfriend material, but... It's fucking coloring books.

And this is why I don't want to meet these women at the local library. I want someone that's more mature. Hell, I want to partake in an activity that's more mature than coloring books. If I don't pick up chicks, so be it. Not everything has to be a chick picking up endeavor, but I want to partake in a mature activity, you know?

To be fair, old Nintendo games can be quite triggering. Have you tried playing Adventures of Bayou Billy?

I'm going to hire Poison Sama to pick out the artwork. Normally I would have gone to Mikey to do the graphic design/layout but he might be dead so gotta find someone else to do that. Other than that, we can self-publish this bitch and sell it in all of the appropriately-pervy subreddits, and on 4chan/9gag. And Craigslist, but that goes without saying.

Well, now that I've thought this all through, what the fuck do I need you for?

@Alpha Skyhawk: At the digital revolution continues, I think libraries are going to have an increasingly hard time justifying their existence and the tax dollars that they need to operate. So, I think that's one of the reasons that we're seeing a lot of them experiment with different non-book, community-orientated stuff to try to broaden their appeal. In addition to adult coloring activities, the libraries around here also host knitting and writing groups, LEGO clubs, and puppet shows, amongst other things.

At one of the blogs I read/follow, the author once had a date night with her husband where they just colored in coloring books. If nothing else, as least it's an inexpensive date!

Knitting groups? That shit takes skill.

Writing groups? That shit takes dedication.

LEGO clubs? If it's for kids, that shit's good for the brain. If it's for adults, that shit's complicated and takes skill and dedication.

Puppet shows? That's for kids, right? Nothing wrong with that.

Adult coloring activities? :thevt:

I'm all for community-oriented stuff. I go to a library function myself every month. It's not a fucking regularly scheduled coloring book activity for adults.

I went to the dollar store and picked up two sets of colored pencils for $1 each and a book for $8. I'll do it when I have time off Fri and Sat.

Collages don't take skill either and I usually do those most of the time. I'd do assemblages, but I don't have space for that junk.

They should have video game and porn coloring books.

@GregN: I would argue that collages take skill (as does coloring; it takes kids a while to master staying inside the lines after all, and complimentary/accurate color choices and shading are things that even adults may struggle with if they're doing it "seriously"). Sure, you can just slap anything together to make a collage, but a good one takes a lot of thinking/planning to get an interesting arrangement.
