although I think XIII is a step backwards from XII but that's an entire different subject.

You're joking right? Kof12 was the most bare bones fighting game ever made. So damn boring. Kof13 felt like the "full version". I'm so curious... What makes you feel like kof12 is better than 13?

The zooming, the graphx filter (or lack thereof) in XII.

Exactly, graphically KOFXII is leagues and bounds above XIII. That's just graphics, XII had a tighter combat system which was new but at the same time drew from the days of yore. The counter system was also new and cool, the critical counter was a god idea, it could have gone further.

What happened with KOFXIII was basically a regression, they basically just went back to their 98 format, basically just slap an older game engine, which is ok, KOFXIII is a good game but definitely steps backwards, you are either blind or haven't played KOFXII enough to tell the difference. KOFXIII single player experience is a bummer, it sucks, but play it versus proficiently and watch the sparks fly.

I'm just scratching the surface here, we could go into details character by character and I could explain to you how the changes were a step backwards in order to sell better 'cause SNKP has always dealth with that wishy washy notion of listening to the fans, the problem is that most fans don't really know what they want, they think they want the same old KOF and that's why KOFXIII is so bare bones in terms of gameplay compared t KOFXII...

...it's pretty fucken sad that I have to explain this...

Edit: KOF XII was basically Fatal Fury Special vs Art of Fighting 95'...it has that feel but the new gameplay elements and rushdown combos mae it great like SF Alpha 2 was in terms of crazy custom cornertraps and crazy eye catching combos. If only KOFXII have had Young Geese AOF2 as the boss and with an improved AI everyone would be loving KOFXII, it's a shame, really.

Edit 2: If KOFXIII had a least left the Zooming action from XII intact or at the very least keep the sprites clean KOF XIII could be one of the greatest last hurrahs on SNK fighting games. Gameplay is great, it's nothing new but it plays very smooth.

Well, my two cents worth, is that if SNK could get back into the game with making a new console, something like a Neo-Geo 2, market it toward an Arcade style group, make sequels of their most amazing games on it, port them to the Neo-Geo, and the other consoles out there afterward, ie: Android, PS3, PS4 and the WiiU, I think they would be able to keep afloat, make their fans happy, and slowly become what they used to be. But, it would take them a long time to get back to where they were, and I don't think they have the patience for that, nor do I think that they can remember what their best IP's even were at this point, ala the statement about not knowing where to go anymore other than King of Fighters, when they have SO MANY great titles they could choose to make sequels from that were just as good, if not better than the KOF games. I wish them the best of luck, and I will always be a fan of theirs, even if they no longer make great games anymore, I will always hope the best for them as they were once an incredible company.

Neo-geo 2 was better known as atomiswave and with the way that turned out, they better just stick to games.... Not only are arcades dead, but the THEME of arcades are all but forgotten.

The Atomiswave was not actually made by SNK, nor did they make great sequels for it from IPs that would be worthwhile other than Slug 6 as they can't remember what the hell was great on the Neo-Geo, and even Slug 6 had no red blood or slyle, so real fans gave not two shits for it. They did not port anything from the Atomiswave to a system that their fans would buy the games the most on ala the Neo-Geo, and they did not really give it much time to even latch on to many people due to lack of patience.

The biggest issues with SNK are what I stated above, and Arcade's might be dead to many but certainly not to all as it's doing great in many asian countries, and Arcade style games are still selling quite well, otherwise games like the Street Fighter series (fighters in general), and games that are known as "bullet hell" shooters are still going strong. Yes, for us in the US and those in Japan, the Arcade scene is gone now, but I am sure there are still many that loved them, that buy them and make their own arcade rooms, and it's this type of thought that lets you know that if they were to make Arcade style games, they would still sell. Not just in Arcades, but the ports would be selling nice if the games are good enough.

Yes, it would take serious time for their system to pick up, and even if it did not sell as well as a PlayStation per se, they should be able to survive quite nicely on ports. However, their damn games would have to be really good, which is why I cannot emphasize enough that SNK would have to be very patient, and make games that people everywhere would buy taken from their absolute best past IP's, even if they were games that are just $14.99 on PS3/PS4 in the end. Their real games would be selling on the Neo-Geo and NG2 by their most loyal fans. It can be done, sadly it's people that haven't any faith in Arcade games in general that killed off arcades in general. Like I said though, this is just my two cents.

Casinos are the new Arcades. Unfortunately, it seems the Arcades of our earlier youth are just a memory now. There are a few left if you can find them but I haven't seen any that exist today like in the Golden Age of Arcades during the early 90's.

If Metal Slug Assault is anything to go by, their mobile games will be good at least, also hopefully they use the money to fund other console games.

The AW had some great games made by SNK, in fact every single game they made for the AW was great. Just 'cause fanboys and collecturdz couldn't deal with it doesn't mean it's bad. Faith in arcades...lol
