NitD 2 player slowdown just on the multi?

I had a chance to play some nitd on the multicart at the finmeeting and when Rob joined in the game went to a crawl especially at boss fights. Is that a multicart issue or also happening on the original?

I had the Original Holo labelled mvs...yes it slowed down quite a lot in places, Great polished platformer i really miss.
