I was using the monitor for about an hour or so when the picture became scrambled, then it went back to normal for a short while, and then it went into standby mode (essentially turning the screen off without the monitor actually being turned off). I then turned the monitor off and I will check it out again in an hour or so.

Any idea why this happened? If it is a problem, can it be fixed?

I thought it might be due to overheating, but the monitor did not seem overly hot to me.

Most likely the cable. It needs certain pins grounded on the 25 pin connector to be in RGB mode. If for some reason the ground connection isn't there, it will sometimes do that. Check the cable for loose grounds and what not.

Thanks man. I think it does indeed have to do with the cables. I had no issues later in the day. Never crossed my mind that could result in what I experienced; my knee jerk reaction was to think something more serious was going on.
