I really hate The sound of music. It's one of those movies where you wish the Nazis would actually win.

It's not our Country, it's Freistaat Bayern, a.k.a. Das Einzig Wahre. You could end up in jail there for such liberal posting ;).

Needles to say, I prefer the Vulkaneifel...

Haven't been on the Zugspitze (2962 m, nice pic of the Eibsee btw.)... but I "climbed" the Langenberg (843,2 m) some years ago and recently the Kahler Asten (841,9 m)

//EDIT: Oh, and I've done a walking tour in the area around the Externsteine (Eggegebirge, Teutoburger Wald etc.) just three weeks ago ^^

I've been at the Zugspitze, but a long long time ago. To give you a hint how long ago, Diesel was 0.98 Deutschmarks at the gas pump.

Still a bit vague, as Diesel was two times on this level: 1978/79 & 1989/90 respectively. But since you didn't say "eons" ago, well, I guess it was latter.

    Not true!

Spend an extended amount of time abroad, and upon your return you'll see your country with different eyes, promised.

Lots of sights here. Nice countryside, etc. We have very good water and beer and there are some quite clever people here.

Other than that, people over here take their laws way too seriously and the PC bullshit drives me crazy. It used to be different until the early 90s, then things gained momentum after the reunification and went all downhill from there.

Neuschwanstein Castle (and of course also Hohenschwangau's one) is a true marvel.
But also the cities of Köln, Augsburg, München deserve a special place in my memories because my family has german and austrian origins and every summer we travelled through those great places.
I still remember that I saved my money to invest in the local kaufhaus-kaufhof, expecially GB and MD titles.

After that, I returned in my 20's for the Oktoberfest with my pals and in my 30's with my family.

Probably I looked the things through the nostalgia glasses, but I preferred those streets full of konditorei...

A tip for people who travel to Neuschwanstein: if you want a tour you have to wait for hours, because there are ~4000 visitors each day!

Better hike up and have a great view on the castle, with no waiting in line and no crowds. And take a postcard picture back home.
