Xian's thread pretty much covers how to spot teh boots, but there are still a lot of posts here questioning if something is a boot or not. I thought it might be handy for n00bs to see what boots look like and how they can be spotted. Hopefully some find this useful. Pics taken from EBay and this forum, anyway, on to the fun.

I bought a 1 Slot MVS cab last month and there was a boot copy of SLUG 5 included. This is the game board. connectors pins were heavily soldered, probably to enhance contact

Many thanks to those pictures and man-power to contribute to the community, BTW :)

Well, me and my friends usually do some bulk buys and sometimes (rarely, fingers crossed), we have a nice bootleg with it (so far one rage of the dragons, one slug 4 and pop n bounce). since the prices are always ultralow on those bulks ... well i don't give a fuck, they get sold off as a boot or repurposed for one of the protos ...

Yeah if I ever buy a small lot there is almost always a boot in there, I would just play them but they all but two times have had scratchy glitchy sound issues. I do have a neobomerman boot that plays find and puzzle Bobble. The rest though all have wonky sound, metal slug 5, andro dunos, samsho2, Shock troopers 2 (although this is a AES conversion I believe real mask Roms, but hand soldering all over). Had plenty of others too but I sent those back to the sellers. Come to think of it I do have a working strikers 1945 boot somewhere too... But typically boot equals bad sound for me :-/

lol, SMD chip on the back of board 1...

but I must say I'm quite surprised by how many different boot PCB designs there are...

A buddy got rid of his collection and gave me around a dozen AES boots he has. I'll post them as I have time.

The first one I cracked open is Slug X.

With all the bootleg copies of NEO games floating around out there, I wonder if anyone has ever put together a complete collection of MVS boots?

In some crazy way, I kinda thing that would be sorta neat to see. :lolz:

For sure a lot of cables were required to circumvent the protection of SlugX on that boot. Maybe even voodoo/witchery/sorcery. Too bad it uses original boards, some other original game was killed to create this Frankenstein.

sometimes I feel like there's a lot of knowledge required to make these boots. It's a shame really the bootleggers don't use it for good... imagine if DavidG (Jason Young) used his skills to create homebrew boards etc. instead of scamming - he could've been a great part of the community.

I believe DavidG had some participation in the board design used by Knight's Chance? or was it the board design for NGDev releases?
