I don't shop at Target too frequently. But I'd rather go there than Wal-Mart. It's much cleaner, better organized and far less of a freakshow.

Like you...I don't "shop" at Target a ton. I get my food fro Wal Mart because my choices are either that or much more costly Kroger. When it comes to anything else outside of food, I go to Target. While our local Wal Marts vary...at a minimum, they're kinds shitty. At their worst...my god...I'd feel morally cleaner taking a nap in a buddy-booth at a local porn shop.

Costco for me. I hate having to shop frequently, so I buy in bulk to cut down on time spent in awful places. Plus, Costco has yummy samples!

Definitely more hot moms at Target. Go there on a weekday during the day.

As far as the "performance review" part of working retail, it's not always used in the best way.

It's one thing to ferret out lazy employees, it's entirely another to use it to foster an environment of cutthroat competitiveness for a near-minimum wage job.
My second job was working at the Best Buy tech bench, before it was "Geek Squad" and they wore black shirts. They expected you to up-sell computer services and computer parts, warranties, service plans, and drive people to buy things they really didn't need.
Now, I'm not a good salesman. I'm far too honest and have too much of a conscience to screw over 55 year old retirees on fixed incomes who just wanted their shitty computer to read emails from their grandchildren, and didn't need a Pentium 4 with 2GB of RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro SE (really dating myself here).

I sold decently, and always had very happy customers, but my boss was always pushing us to sell more and bigger stuff and get people to sign up for in-store credit.
My area of expertise was doing repairs. I was responsible for about 70% of the repair and diagnostic work we did, and was the only person among the 6 employees there who could work on Macs, making us the only Best Buy in about 200 miles that worked on them.

Regardless, I was disciplined for not pushing enough sales and had my pay dropped by $2.00 an hour. I left a month or two later, and I kept in touch with a fellow employee there who became a friend, and he let me know that the supervisor was disciplined several months later and bumped down to a salesperson when they fell behind on repair work and the complaints started piling up.

Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. Retail work sucks.

Retail is ok. My first job was at KB Toys. I worked on a black Friday once and an old woman said I looked tired and gave me money to buy a coffee. I told her my mom doesn't let me drink coffee but I thanked her and bought a yoohoo instead.

I miss those days.

I just got back from Target a few min ago. They were the only retailer in town (and we have all of them) that had the Borderlands 2 PS Vita Bundle. It even comes with an 8GB memory card. Granted, Amazon had it. But I wanted it right now.

Target FTW

I worked at target when I was in High School back in '98 and actually worked in the back room which is just the warehouse. I didn't have a problem working there, no matter where you go some stuff is going to be both good and bad. And actually it was the usual issues of low pay, etc. But unless you are in the upper echelon of management, you're not going to be making a decent living working there. That's just the nature of the beast. Walmart is closer than target for us so I generally shop there. People hate on walmart and the people that shop there but I think it's awesome. Great place to people watch and if you're ever feeling bad about yourself, just a quick walk around and all of a sudden your issues aren't so bad =P

I know what you mean man. I worked at Sears on a seasonal basis on Xmas 2012. All they cared about was pimping credit card sign ups. I did ok at it. They also were too late on their loyality program shop your way (also used at Kmart, which is nearly extinct). Long story short, they let me go with out even a phone call.

The place I work now is pretty chill. They have us pimp charity contributions, but that's about it. I work in several departments depending on who needs help. I like my job.

They're opening a Target here with a bar in it. So there's that.

what the fuck does that have to do with anything

It means I don't live in my parent's basement.

Also, Target were amateurs with their pharmacy. They have to farm it out to CVS. When I tried to fill something, they tried to give me the run-around and make me do their legwork for them. I said "fuck them" and now I go to a local pharmacy where they know their shit.

Wrong. I'm back the week of Labor day. Gotta pay property taxes in Oct.

So you only need to work 4 weeks out of the year to pay for property taxes?

You have any other expenses?
