Seriously, fuck Target.
Why?

1.) They bean count their employees, (parse their efficiency) and if they're not up to snuff (even the cashiers), they show you the door. I worked there briefly in the backroom, but I was going through some personal issues, and only lasted a few months. I liked the hours - 4am-10:30am though.

2.) They fucked up in Canada, and their employees paid for it with their jobs.

3.) The whole gender-based labeling is a mess.

4.) Today in the paper, they mentioned that they exclude certain people due to age, race, etc. on their hiring test (I don't have a link)

I would not go there, but it's on the way home to my parents house, and there's one literally 1 mile from my house.

I've been buying stuff from members here, Wal*mart, and Amazon, and am trying not to go there if I can help it.

Anybody else feel the same way about Target? I'm sure our Canadian friends have an opinion.

I recently got a great deal on some 4 roses bourbon small batch at Target. Such a good price I bought 2 bottles. Burnt through the first and saved the second...

You are upset that they are doing away with gender based labeling, or you're mad they have it?

Target is only cool because they let you return anything to store credit. I was able to get my Wii U that way.

I worked there too about 10 years ago. I remember when I worked in the back room I was written up because I was climbing the shelves. Best job there was Lawn and Garden.

1. What's wrong with expecting a certainly level of performance & efficiency out of your employees? Too many people these days feel entitled to a job, but don't feel like they should have to work hard. It's a hard truth, but if you are an unskilled laborer, you are going to take more shit and be treated like livestock because you are easily replaced. For every worker at Target dragging ass and not doing their job, there are 5 people who would happily take over for them.

2. They tried to expand into Canada and it didn't work. The people who worked for Target in Canada had jobs while the store was open.

3. This is retarded and not worth addressing.

4. Find a link. I see all types of people working at my local Target. Male, female, young, old, every race, and even people with handicaps that would apparently rather work than collect disability. One cashier at my local store is deaf.

I'm not saying that Target is saintly (what major retailer is?); and they're probably really no better than Wal-Mart. But your reasons for ostensibly hating the company are pretty dumb.

Ughhh, this is a serious problem as of late at my work. All these 18-24 year olds (approx age) are like this that they've hired in the last year or so.

Is this a product of the "everyone gets a trophy for just showing up" mentality that has been taking over the country? Is that making these kids not even try because there are no winners or losers when they grew up so no incentive to do anything more than just show up? Or is this a product of something else entirely? Maybe everyone is a winner mentality + lack of parenting due to both parents working too much?

What I do know for sure is these kids are annoying to have working for you. And it's even more annoying that they've been allowed to stick around. They show up, so they just let them keep their jobs...

I'm guessing that it's a problem with more than one cause. Maybe with the young people this has been caused by the participation trophy/special sneauxflaeque bullshit, but there are plenty of people my age who act the same way. Some people are just lazy *and* entitled.

Am I avoiding Target whenever possible for this ridiculous stunt of not gender basing shit, Hell yes! I don't agree with it. I think its stupid along with the rest of the "can't upset anyone" society we live in. In the grand scheme of things, my actions don't mean a GD thing.

Yeah, it's most likely a combination of factors for these young kids. And true, older people can be lazy entitled fucks as well. But out of all the new hires we've had over the last year or so not a one of them have i seen not act like that. It's really both interesting and scary. It's also got to be one of the main reasons that customer service seems to be non-existent pretty much everywhere anymore. I don't expect to have my ass kissed when I'm a customer anywhere. But the amount of "meh" I've been seeing everywhere is astounding as of late. So when I actually get people that put forth some effort I'll frequent their business.

Target has decent prices and selection on home & kitchen goods so I shop there occasionally.. I'm less worried about their "treatment" of employees and more worried about the cost of their baby wipes and high thread count bed sheets.

Walmart is pretty cheap all around but I only go there right when they open around 6am, past noon and it's a fucking third world circus.. have u ever been to Walmart on a Friday night? lol wow.....

I prefer Amazon to both

I spend most of my day to day at Target / Amazon.
Target is great in my area. The difference between walmart and target is night and day.

I did get into a fight right at the door of a Target because some jackhole in his giant truck decided he had the right of way over all pedestrians.

I shop at Walmart usually because it's closer and cheaper, but sometimes I go to Target. Usually when they have a good deal or an exclusive on a game or movie I want.

But Amazon is taking a higher and higher percentage of my business every year.
