would it be easier, harder, or about the same to do this with a drum pad midi controller?

I just made this to prove that u can play some drums using just 4 fingers, a potato pc keyboard and a very simple free software (a zero dollar solution). I was thinking...a pc keyboard controller pcb + some piezo triggers = a very cheap, primitive electronic drumset (?)
