I modded mine using this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/Sega-Genesis-Model-1-Region-Modification/ however it only works for US/JP games, because I did not mod the crystal to play the PAL games. It's enough for me, though.

Thanks for the site aha2940, I checked it out... But the mod does not work with the VA-7 revision.

Here is a photo of it. as they are not line up the same way as the prev revisions.

Oh, shoot. Right, these are different and do not have the serial port on the back. Also, IIRC, these are the ones that do not have good sound. I think you are better getting a nicer HDG Genesis (should be about $10-$15 console only) and maybe selling/giving away this one. It will be better sounding and easier to mod. Thanks for the link man . I am debating if I should attempt the mod as the other revisions are much easier.
So I did attempt the region mod for JP/ US using the info on this like http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=420.0. It seems to be working as intended. It's not as bad as I though.
