What game introduced "Scratching"

I am thinking Raiden Fighters....but probably wrong.

Also referred to as "grazing," "scraping," "hugging," and "buzzing."

I believe Raiden DX has some element of this, which predates the Fighters series.
There could be an even earlier example, however...

Psyvariar was probably the first game that built a true scoring system around the mechanic.
