Anyone still into Pen & Paper these days?

Just wondering. We're more or less about to start our first Shadowrun 5th Edition session but set in the 2050 era instead of the current 2075 one (thanks to the new "2050" sourcebook they just released here)

Any other worthwhile games with a similar or more simple system around?

Still gaming here. Far as I know, the only ones out there that have the same level of fleshed out setting info (if that's what you're looking for) are the venerable Cyberpunk 2020, as well as the GURPS system w/ the appropriate cyberpunk-y sourcebook stuffs. Though you did say 'more simple system', so GURPS is probably out as it's arguably MORE complex than even SR 2/3 was.

Any other worthwhile games with a similar or more simple system around?

In the last few months I've gotten back into PnP RPGs with a few buddies of mine. We've been mostly playing Rifts, Warlords of Russia specifically, and I ran a couple sessions of All Flesh Must Be Eaten. Another old RPG buddy of mine is planning on running a game of Shadowrun as well with the new rules. I remember playing quite a bit of Shadowrun back in the day, so it should be fun.

As far as simple RPG systems. All Flesh Must be Eaten, an RPG set in a zombie apocalypse, is pretty easy to learn. Making a character is especially quick, because it's a set point based system. So you have a set amount of points to spend on attributes, skills and qualities/drawbacks depending on your character classification, Norm, Survivor, and Inspired.

Some other RPGs I remember having fun playing, 7th Sea, Rifts(pretty much any Palladium RPG), Brave New World (A cool Super Hero RPG with a similar character creation setup as All Flesh. A ton of sourcebooks and hero-types to choose from.), Dark Matter (awesome sci-fi/conspiracy game, not unlike playing a PnP X-Files), Deadlands (A "Weird West" Wild west themed game with gambler sorcerers, zombie gunslingers, and crazed beasts based on Native American mythology), Alternity... That's about all I can remember right now.

I never get to play anymore but sometimes I run an occasional Twilight 2000 1st Edition game or a Star Wars Saga Edition one.

I'm thinking about rebooting with 5th edition but time is an issue. We've been playing Descent for those long stretches of time.

Personally, I prefer the TWSBI 580. Superb in every way.

As for paper, Strathmore 500 Series Pro is easily the best.

When I get a chance to I like to get some table top gaming in. During the spring we were able to get a few nights of Labyrinth Lord going. Its a old school basic/advanced D&D type game. Basically just those old systems with some rules fixes and a few other tweaks. Loads of fun. Got a to play a little bit of that new Star Wars rpg and I liked the mechanics of the system.

Never heard of it, but sounds like fun.

This is what I play.

I was wondering why some of your are making these stupid jokes...guess those type of game are more commonly known as tabletop games in general in whereever the fuck you live.
Stuff like Warhammer is known as tabletop game over here where games like SR and D&D are usually called Pen & Paper games (because it involves those two items most of the time).

Pen&Paper RPG's, hmm... We played some AD&D with an overt beer & pretzels high fantasy theme, what I'd really like to do would be to GM a proper Vampire: The Masquerade campaign. I have some ideas about it, to incorporate my Helsinki: 2020 into it. The main problem being that most of my old rpg comrades are slacking.

I don't play (other than video game adaptations), but I spend quite a bit of time reading the rules/source material, particularly Monster Manuals/Fiend Folios, for D&D (1st and 2nd edition AD&D are my preferences, but I don't hate the newer versions). In fact, I'm reading the 2nd Edition "Sages & Specialists" supplement at the moment (rules for cartographers, blacksmiths, appraisers, guides, etc., as player characters and NPCs). Kind of bizarre stuff to read for recreational purposes I suppose, but that's me.

There was a really good live action game of Paranoia at a con one year. People had radios and were getting orders from the computer. Had maps of the hotel and convention center. Sometimes you would hear an order go out to kill everyone in a certain hall and then you would start freaking because you're in that hall. Good times.

I'd kill to play Shadowrun or cyberpunk. I just don't know anybody who likes it. They all like D&D. Time is also an issue for me now that I'm working. None of my friends live close either and they have busy schedules. We LARPd vampire and played Star Wars in College though, fun times.

I'd kill to play D&D even. Haven't played since High School, and no one I know wants to start playing again.

My buddies and I started playing p&p RPGs in the 80s and kept on playing until the mid-90s, from then on it became increasingly difficult to get a group together. Most of the time I was the master, good fun. We started with the simple stuff like DSA, (A)D&D, Midgard and MERP, then switched to Rolemaster and it became our RPG system of choice, even though it's a bit complicated compared to most other systems, getting character development and levelling-up done takes ages without a computer program. Back in the day we used a REXX script on Amiga that did most of the calculations but it was very slow and buggy. Other faves of mine were/are Call of Cthulhu, Paranoia and Warhammer.

Still have all my RPG stuff, it takes up half a shelf in my study. One of the guys who used to be in my group started playing again a few months ago, sadly they quickly changed from p&p to real-life roleplaying, I'm not a fan of that tbh, running around with wooden swords and DIY armors isn't my cup of tea. I got several offers to sell my RPG stuff, there are people who pay top money for original first/second-edition Rolemaster/I.C.E. rulebooks and companions in good condition. Not going to bite, though, someday I will give the stuff away for free to a RPG club or something, these games are meant to be played, not collected.

So... my #1 choice for classic p&p RPGing would be Rolemaster and Call of Cthulhu and Paranoia for the more modern/futuristic approach. Specially Paranoia gave us many a good laugh, being a clueless clone can be mad fun.

I've also LARPd Vampire, I got thrown out of a bar in Helsinki for drinking my own blood mixed with rosé wine. Good times.

I'm running a D&D 5th Edition game today!

In Tokyo I was part of a weekly D&D group. We played 4th edition for a couple of years and then beta tested the new one.

I'm doing a conversion of this adventure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Against_the_Giants

This is the second time for me to DM it, it's a pretty good old school dungeon. It has the old Gygax feel and can get pretty deadly.

Back in the day I was a huge Call of Cthulhu, Rifts, and Vampire fan. I played the hell out of CoC and Rifts more than D&D, but enjoyed some 2E games every once in a while.
