MVS Cart Spine Artwork

All, I just started devoting myself to collecting MVS carts starting with a lovely "The Last Blade" cart from member wyo_vr4. I know this is a topic of controversy, but I am entertaining the idea of designing and printing my own spine labels. I won't be collecting complete kits, just loose carts, so the serials don't have any value to me. I do like to have a cart that looks half way decent, though, which is why I have started this. I have found various attempts at spine artwork throughout the forum and though they are nice in their own right, they don't look good enough for me. So I'll be making these on my own from time to time and posting them here for you if you wish to print some on your own. You can find self adhesive inkjet paper at most office supply stores that should do just fine. Let me know what you think and feel free to offer some advice and/or requests. Cheers.

While I do appreciate your effort, and I am not the only one for sure, for whatever reason I like the look of the original labels. When i replace one, I use Xian Xi's ones on jamma-nation-x.com, they look like the original ones except with no serial. A quick suggestion: when I put a replacement label, I've noticed the ink from ink printers does not adhere perfectly to self-adhesive paper, so I put transparent tape over the label, to protect it and give it a better look:

This is speaking for self, but if the label is already a replacement and/or its so horribly mangled, you do what you want with the labels of your carts, understanding that the lack of original label will affect the perceived value of the cart in the event you decide to sell it later.

That being said, they look great and remind me of the labels on James' page. They capture the feel of the games very well, and if it makes you happy go for it man. Are you planning on designing labels for other games or just the ones you own?

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll be making labels for pretty much anything, not just the ones I acquire in the future. The trick is to find artwork of decent size to work with. Thanks for the tip about the transparent tape. That may be the better route to go. To be honest, I am on the fence about changing the originality of the carts as well, so I might look for a non-permanent solution for the labels. But for the carts that don't have an original label to begin with, I'm not worried. I'll try making some more soon. Cheers.

I think that this look great, and I encourage you to keep them coming.

I agree, finding decent-quality artwork is difficult, but you've done a great job in your efforts so far.

What DPI is your workspace in? If you could forward me 600 DPI files, then I'll order a Metal Slug label set through Jasen for my MVS carts.

Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words. Actually, I am creating these at 300dpi. It allows to have a high quality print, plus be able to use artwork that can be pushed a little. What I mean is I have software that can enhance and enlarge images but still keep the sharpness and detail. By going with 600dpi, I would need source images that are huge, which is very hard to come by. The labels I have here for you are full resolution and uncompressed. Just right-click and save to computer. Cheers.

Awesome, I bought some mvs games a while back and they had labels similar to these but unfortunately I can't find them online any more.

Keep it up!

Awesome work man, you really have talent. Two minor suggestions tough:

- The right gray part of MS2 label looks boring, maybe adding a pic of the camel you use of 1st level or something might improve it?
- Shouldn't Eightman himself be show on the 8man label?

Thanks!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will go ahead and make some improvements shortly. Time to watch Doctor Who at the moment though....
