NGPC games with two versions.

Well since my last thread was such an easy fix, I have another question. Because pokemon was a big thing when the NGPC came out, there are some games with two versions. Namely Dive Alert and Card Fighter Clash. Are these games the same, but with different collectables, like pokemon, or are there story or game play differences? Also, of the three original slot machine games: Cherry Master, Dragon's Wild and Mystery Bonus, is there really any difference between them?

Also, for the sake of discussion, if you could only get one of these games, which would you choose? Dive Alert Matt or Becky, Card Fighter SNK or Capcom and which Slots game? I already have Dive Alert: Matt version because it was cheaper, but I still need to pick a Card Fighter.

I can't answer about the Card Fighter, but there is a difference between Cherry Master, Dragon's Wild and Mystery Bonus.

Dragon's Wild is a video draw poker game, making it different that Cherry Master and Mystery Bonus. Dragon's Wild is all about making a poker hand, while the other two are reel based slots.

Cherry Master is probably spot on to one of the original video slot machines that are out there that can be found in bars and various other places. It's otherwise known as an 8-liner because it pays on 8 lines and bets can be placed in uneven amounts on all lines. I'm not too familiar with Mystery Bonus, but that looks to be another video slot machine that probably was found in bars and the like. This is a five line machine, and offers different symbols and play mechanics as you can stop reels individually here, while in Cherry Master, you can stop all reels at once. Also, Cherry Master has 9 reels that move independently of each other, while Mystery Bonus has just three wheels. Add different symbols and payouts across the machines, there are differences that may warrant purchase of both if you are a fan of slot machines in general.

Dragon's Wild is okay, but my complaint is that the payout odds are a little lower than I like when I play a typical video poker machine in a casino. It's fun, but a full house should pay way higher than just 6x your wager.

Yes, I spend a little too much time in a casino to know that. :)

With Card Fighters it's the same game, but there are cards exclusive to each version (you can trade them via link cable if you want the whole set in one game) - there's a lot of guides on the net, this one has a quick overview. If I had to choose, I'd go with the SNK version, because I like the characters better...

I never played "Dive Alert", but the storys, characters, items and boats are supposed to be different in each version. Sounds like it's worth it playing both.

So is Dragon's Wild a video poker game then? And so I think I get what you're saying. Mystery Bonus and Cherry Master are two different kinds of slot machines with different rules and mechanics. That helps alot, thanks! I already have a Cherry Master, but I'll consider looking for a Mystery Bonus once I have all the other games I want.

Yeah, I figured that much about Card Fighter. But the chances of me finding another person with a NGPC, a link cable and a copy of the opposite game are astronmically low! So I think I just want to pick ONE card fighter game to play.

I have a Matt Dive Alert, but the Becky version of Dive Alert is more rare for some reason. Does anyone know why?

They're both pretty common from my experience.

Hmm. I've never found a Becky for sale. Buuuuut Dive Alert is not the most exciting game to begin with.
It's an ok game. Neat premise but searching for enemies was quite boring :lolz:

I don't know about the US versions, but in the UK, both versions of Dive alert were on most shop shelves until the recall.
But it seems that submarine combat simulations have more appeal for boys than girls, so only the Matt version actually sold!!
So the recall cleared the shelves of all unsold copies...... which meant that the Becky version became rare overnight as no bugger had bought it!

That makes sense I guess. I don't think I'll pick up Becky version anyway. Might go to Subway instead or something. But does anyone know if it's different from the Matt version?

A strange situation. Almost all the major retailers had Becky version on the shelves and nobody wanted it.
Now it sells for a premium!
