Aw man I bought Earthbound at a pawnshop for 8$ back when smash 64 was new. I had never herd of the game prior to seeing Ness in Smash bros and I was so happy I made the purchase, the game was great. I regret giving my snes games away when my console broke.

I miss the good old days of pawnshops not knowing about Ebay, I bought so many classics for 5$.

I bought a super everdrive and I am just hunting for Kirby 3.
I already own Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island, but I gave up on Megaman X2 and X3.
I am happy I started recollecting SNES games in '05

I don't wanna flip any of my SNES games.

I really wanted Chrono but can't justify paying the high price for it right now...Luckily one of my buddies got it for me for my b-day.

Lucky you. I just play the Playstation port on the PSN when I have the itch for it. Sames goes for Earthbound actually - I'm glad they released it for the Wii U

I still remember when the local Blockbuster went out of business, I went there and bought a box of loose SNES carts on clearance.

Yeah I used to get games at pawn shops at a set rate no matter the title, now everywhere checks prices online. The only real places to get deals are occasionally flea markets and yard sales. I kinda stopped collecting console stuff when I got more into arcades but I have several hundred nes, snes, genesis, n64 etc. Couldnt have amassed that much in the current market but I'm content with the titles I have, only missing a few must haves

The snes is just the it thing to collect for now.People who grew up with it have the cash now so they buy it up.Beside youtube giving the snes more attention, younger people want it since they see it as the hip thing to do :oh_no: All this creates is to much demand hence the current prices.I'm just satisfy at least, using a super everdrive and buying for it once in awhile.

About a year ago I bought the complete set of Mega Man games for the Super Famicom. That's what I did for rarer titles that weren't RPGs. Just buy the Super Famicom versions. Also why is Super Metroid so much? :keke: People pay so much for Super Metroid when they don't need to.

Although I started buying up SNES games in 2004, I only was able to start picking up games like I wanted a few years ago. This was right after prices started soaring, so I did have to drop some decent cash on some games (about $85 a piece for Wild Guns & Hagane) and around $100 for some others (Harvest Moon, Earthbound, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, etc.) I went ahead and got all the expensive games out of the way, which was a smart move looking back. I think prices are the way they are because SNES games are pretty hard to find out in the wild, I've noticed every time I go to a game store it is pretty much the same 25% of the library, so many games I've only saw out once, or never. I'm very happy to be pretty much done buying NA releases.

Oh yeah, they have been hitting that price for awhile now. They were a lot higher a few years ago, but maybe since the various re-releases it has dropped a little.

Yeesh, and I thought $35-45 was bad when I bought my copy of Chrono Trigger about 4 years ago.

ended up selling the doubles and some other stuff i didn't want out of the box, and came out on top, even after cutting some real good deals.

awww chrono trigger. I remember before it got rereleased on the ps1. It was going for 150-200 for a loose cart at Babbages/funcoland. Now it just seems to fluctuate with every port. I've seen it as low as $50 the past few years, but I think it's just one of those games that's always going to have a cult following and a must have for any collection. But a Complete in Box will costs you upper hundreds at least.

I had a SNES as a kid back in the days and about 14 painstakingly chosen quality games, which I stupidly sold when 'upgrading' to the next big thing. Recently I wanted to reacquire the titles which I once had but the prices are simply insane - and I am just talking about loose carts, CIB for some titles seems to be coming up to almost AES level. So I just got an Everdrive and distanced myself from all this commotion. Would still like the original carts but will pass up on them at these price levels.
From what I have seen the best deals are to be had when buying a console with a few games - you often get the games a lot cheaper than the going rate of the loose carts and the console pretty much free of charge that way. The worst are the traders / 'specialised' sellers / flippers pumping the prices every PoS game but calling it 'rare' and the 'vga grading' crowd buying games as conversation pieces instead of playing them etc. One wonders whether prices are starting to flat out or whether there is still plenty of air to be pumped into this bubble - personally I am of the later view.

I came from the same exact scenario. However, I've never sold my old stuff as a kid "upgrading" to the next big thing.

None of this has anything to do with how my SNES collection became so ballin' though.

I gave up on US snes games. Sold EVERY single one of them, replaced them with the SFC, never looked back. If I want to play some high dollar snes game, I'll load up the Everdrive. Same game and money doesn't go into a greedy pocket. Cause let's be real here, the only person seeing your money is the reseller.

You know, I'm a drooling caveman with severe brain damage when it comes to the tech/romchip/cost/eprom/boot-technique side of things, so I'm not saying it's possible for the fake to ever become indistinguishable from what's real, but..

my prediction is that eventually there will be so many "repro" bootlegs out there that the overwhelming majority of people will accept them, and they will become one in the same as the real thing. Earthbound becomes a $20 game whether it's real or fake, because you won't be able to find any people out there who care about authenticity by this point.

I like the Super Famicom a lot and have a sizable amount of games for it. Objectively speaking it's the way to go. But I guess I've been afflicted by nostalgia, because the SNES is one of the very few consoles where I'm enchanted by US titles more than the Japan counterpart.

SNES prices have been going up lately to crazy prices. I was lucky enough to run into a co worker who had some SNES games he sold to me to make up some money for buying a Wii U. I got Breath of fire I & II, and Earthbound for around $80 total. I'm at the point in my gaming hobby where i am unwilling to pay these crazy prices for games. I have a mega ever drive, and just purchased a turbo ever drive, and joined Broken's group buy for a NES ever drive. I honestly think this is the way to go to play these over priced games. Not a fan of giving my hard earned money to flippers and asshats

One of the local video stores went out of business and they had a complete copy of Aero Fighters for like $20. This was over 10 years ago. I collect SNES games and am glad I got in when I did because prices are nuts now.

I remember about eight years ago when I was too cheap to pay $40 for a loose one. I didn't want to pay more than $30 because I had recently bought the arcade board for $15.

Now you can buy the full arcade cabinet for the price of a loose SNES cart. I think this really puts the ridiculousness of everything into perspective.

Yea considering the PCB is loads better than the snes/SFC version.

I bought an everdrive in 2013 and haven't looked back. I sold my SNES collection for over $500 and had less than 35 carts in it. Megaman X2 and x2 sold for 200 on their own. I turned around and bought the SFC versions for $60 together.

Even SFC versions are getting there, I seen Pocky and Rocky SFC carts go for 100$.

I guess X2 and X3 are more expensive due to rarity, I am happy the first X didnt go crazy expensive. Thats the best Megaman X imo.
