So, I finally sold my old laptop and purchased a nicer one off ebay and I believe the copy of windows 7 on the laptop uses an activator. I cannot get into the bios as it is password protected and I think I remember reading somewhere that activators mess with the bios. I also believe he used an activator as the activation on the bottom of the unit is for windows 7 pro and ultimate is installed. I am downloading a windows 7 pro image and going to use the one on the bottom of the laptop. Any tech help would be great. I searched online and couldn't really find any help.

Oh yeah and forgot to mention, the guy left an 8gb sd card in the laptop with 2 pics and a windows ultimate iso :keke:

if you can't get into the bios, you'll have to unplug the battery to do a reset

I was going to format and reinstall windows anyway so I am doing that now. I found out where the cmos battery is on the laptop so I will be trying that method maybe tomorrow. Way too tired to start opening it up and tinkering with it tonight. Thanks all for the input

well this computer does have a coa on the bottom, would I still need a loader?

Depends if it's an oem key. You'll need the right oem ISO for the key to work. Even some dells the key will only work on some discs. Anymore the machines have a restore partition on the drive, making the previous statements moot.

One cool thing about new laptops loaded with Win 8 is that they have a keyfile of sorts flashed right into the bios, so if you have an iso of win 8 or in my case when I did a clean install of 8.1, the serials were instantly applied and it activated without a hitch.

That's pretty cool, didn't realize that!

They normally have it in the bios, but not always(sometimes it'll ask for a key). We'll have issues occassionally with this at work(pc repair shop). Make sure if you do a clean install, use a genuine Win 8 dvd... or the correct "oem" image.
