When I was real young, I used to play Neo Geo games and not even realize it: Puzzle Bobble, Magical Drop II, 3 Count Bout, World Heroes, Art of Fighting, Cyber Lip, Thrash Rally... all these machines at pizza places and malls and stuff.

The very first Neo Game I ever remember playing and thought "this is special" was Samurai Shodown II.

After that, I did some research and found out all my favorite games happen to be Neo Geo titles... Then, when I started playing KOF 98, I knew I'd one day own a machine.

Thankfully, I later found out about how to build a CMVS and things got a lot easier

Metal Slug 2. Yeah, I was influenced by the later games at first.

The first MVS game I ever got was Metal Slug 3, what a classic. It's still one of my favorite Neo games. I then got into AES and I found an appreciation for the older Neo titles. 1990 sure was full of weird titles, it's like SNK and ADK were tossing random ideas around hoping something would stick. Eventually SNK found their game, with 1991's Fatal Fury. The Neo sure quickly became a fighting system after Fatal Fury. It just makes the 1990 lineup all the more unique and strange.

    FATAL FURY 2 SPECIAL.

    Then, SAM SHO 2.

    KOF 94~7.

    And Finally,

    SAM SHO 4.

Shit was The Big Red Crack Machine.

It got more quarters than the CAPCOM Fighters.

    And I LOVED it.

Very first game I played was Baseball Stars Pro, I remember it being a team of people named after monsters or something. Then Magician Lord followed by Baseball Stars 2, Fatal Fury and World Heroes (Death match specifically).

Puzzle Bobble and the first Metal Slug got me started.

While we are sharing stories though...
Back when Nintendo discontinued the Virtual Boy, I remember picking up a copy of Panic Bomber in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart. I thought that it was a great game but would have been better in color and multiplayer. When I started looking into getting an arcade machine and found out that Panic Bomber had an MVS release, I knew I had to get this machine.

For it's time Mag Lord was quite a revelation.

Nam-1975 and Magician Lord were the first two games I ever saw for the Neo Geo (when they were new). They are what made me realize how crazy powerful the system was. But it was out of reach and I never played them (or anything Neo Neo) until more recently.
The first game I played and the game that made me want to 'dive in' was Mutation Nation.

First game was Fatal Furty but the games that got me hooked was Metal Slug and Aero Fighter 2.
I didn't even saw that many Neo Geo cabs as a kid but in the late 90s when i was in the military NEO GEO machines where all over the base.
There was even a Cab with Kiazuna Encounter and Bubble Blobber in my barracks

The first Neo game that blew my mind and got me hooked was Samurai Sho II. I had experience with other Neo games previously (KOF94/95, Magician Lord) but SamShoII was THE ONE. I was officially Neo addicted after that.

I saw quite a few 4-slot machines so I got used to seeing multiple games. Usually the games that pulled me in were Samurai Shodown (1 and 2), Bust-a-Move (don't really care for it anymore, a bit burnt out on it), and Aerofighters 2.

Later in college I had a guy in the dorm setup a projector running a Neogeo emulator with Magical Drop 3. I become hooked on that game and later went through the Neogeo library finding several other favorites just by randomly playing strange named games. Windjammers is one that I just played randomly and couldn't play it enough.

Is windjammers the game where you jump back and forth between fields of play shooting projectiles at each other? If so it seems like a really fun game.

Hmm, not really sure what you mean by fields of play Windjammers is a frisbee game where you are playing from a top-down perspective. You have a net, and you are trying to get it past the other person. It is glorified Pong, but with super moves.

You might mean Battle Flip Shot or Bang Bead, at a guess?

The games that got me hooked weren't even real Neo games! I played Fatal Fury 1 a bit in the arcade and thought it was pretty rad, and later found Fatal Fury 2 snes cheap at blockbuster. I played the hell out of it, naturally. I then picked up Art of Fighting from another store and loved it too. I was hooked, but I had to stick with ports at home and the occasional arcade play.

Metal Slug X. I had never seen such outrageously huge boss battles in any video game, and I thought that was fucking awesome.

Later I got a Genesis, and played through the Treasure games which also had some awesome boss battles. But that only curbed the desire for more SNK action for so long.
