Wow, never heard of getting ticketed for parking in the way of the street sweeper, here they just go around your car and leave your gutter a mess.

Street sweeping tickets are HORSE SHIT, in downtown Columbus they go on a towing spree when they clean the street. I didn't realize Cbus fucks people in the ass that hard on a street sweep when I moved in, next morning (3rd Thursday of the month) my truck is gone..$200 + a cab to the south side of town to spring my hoo-ride. Columbus also stuck me like $75 for my bumper being no more than 6" over the sidewalk at the end of my driveway.

Yeah, downtown columbus fucking sucks. It's bad enough just going down there for a night out, I couldn't imagine living down there.

I got my first(and only) parking ticket last year. I had apparently parked in a 'no parking' spot. There was no fire hydrant, no red/yellow/green curb, no visable signs(at least I didn't notice any) so I parked. Came back to my car & found I had a ticket. There was a sign(and only 1) right in the middle of the block & was next to a tree. The sign did in fact state that there was no parking anytime on that entire side of the block... but again, no red curb, no "noticeable" sign, etc.... just one freakin' sign partially obscured by a tree.

I took pictures of where my car was parked & all around the area. They made me pay $56 first & then I had to go appeal it at a later date. They ended saying that I was in the wrong and kept the $56. Thank you San Diego.

Every time I got a ticket I went for appeal, and the appeal was successful every time because I have a clean slate.

When I lived in Milwaukee it was pretty ridiculous.

Get this: If you don't have a yearly sticker on your car, you MUST call a number and tell them where you're parking for the night (address, cross street, plate number). So.... if we had people come visit for a week, we had to do this every night. Missing one lets them give you a ticket for parking - it doesn't matter if there is signage or not... it doesn't matter if you're legally parked on a tiny side street... if you didn't call in for the night, expect a ticket.

Do any other cities have this in place?

Yup, even if the spot you park in is an ok space to park in 24 hours (or maybe with snow limitations).

Now you can't get more than 3 days of permission in a 30 day span. They are trying to force everyone to pay for city parking stickers. So now if my girlfriend visits for more than 3 days she has to park in the street, then swap with my car so then I'm in the street and shes in the garage. It's just ridiculous. She's visiting for 7-8 days in a few weeks and effectively we have to leave her car with some friends in the suburbs because we have not other option aside from going to a pay lot.

Milwaukee also seems good about handing out tickets incorrectly so you have to jump through hoops to fix it. That really bothers me, because it just screams of "I hope you don't fight this false ticket and just pay the fine"

What garbage

I live in LA. Back in 2007 I was bad at avoiding street sweeping tickets. Those things were $25 dollars a pop at the time and would double and triple if you didn't pay on time (which I didn't). That sucks but whatever.

Had a similar experience when I lived in LA :(

Oh, it happened. I got one that price maybe two years back. The worst part is that I really did it to myself. I woke up super-early in a panic about the street cleaning for some reason, remembering it was street cleaning day. In my half-awake state, I stumbled out to my car and moved it from the RIGHT side of the street to the WRONG SIDE. Then stumbled back inside and immediately fell back asleep. Smash cut to 5 hours later, when I wake up again, realize what I'd done and run out to the car to find my new $70+ dollar parking ticket. What the fuck was I thinking?

I always triple check the sign for this very reason. I can easily see myself doing some shit like that lol.

Parking in San Francisco is like parking in Russia. Once you realize a trip to the gulag in on the line, you triple check every parking decision.
