Sorry about spamming all my thoughts here, but helps me actually do things when I first brag them here.

We had gaming night with RockstarRunner here and noticed that there was quite loud buzzing when the audio was silent otherwise. I tested all different kind of grounding things with no success.

Next day after I had less beer in my head I realized that I have 1GHz two channel digital oscilloscope and used little bit more scientific approach than just trying things. Well, it was bad cable. I'll get me coat.

But back to the business. Next step is to create wireless controller. Well, try to create one. I have few atmega328 microcontrollers, nrf24l01 radio modules I have used when creating wireless temperature sensors, lots of extra d15 connectors, male and female and if I grab pile of 4066 quad bilateral switches I think I have everything I need. nrf24l01 might not be best for this, but this would just be proof of concept. Maybe first just do some sort of mockup controller and then think about adapters for normal controllers.

Yes, but I like to do things my own way. It is just part of the fun, doing it by myself and write the microcontroller code.

Also doing my own implementation lets me add features like configurable buttons, autofire, LCD later.

Edit:

I played with arduino uno and 4066 and it was easy to emulate joystick. Maybe next week I have time to build prototype for wireless joystick.

Today I finally began building prototype for the wireless controller board. It was good excuse to teach my 8 years old kid to how to solder. Hopefully I'll finish the receiver today.

...and the receiver prototype is ready to be programmed.

Some of the soldering were done by my 8 years old kid.

UPDATE:

I had to redesign the 3.3V regulation. It had noise that killed the radio module, didn't receive single packed. Replacing cap did the job, but I'm going to spend some time to think about filtering.

And now it was time to burn the program to the chip

... and to test the receiver

great stuff going on in here! Nice to see you got the receiver working. Awesome. For the controler case you shouldn't go too big, other than that the munitions box you linked looks very fitting :)

Late, vähän on kuollutta, mutta yritetään näiden projektien avulla saada hulinaa.

I finally activated with the controller, decided that prototype is made from MDF.... Today I'm bit busy, but maybe I'll try to ready things for painting.

Edit:

And got this one today. When I have time, I can now create better prototype boards

Still needs layer of paint and maybe lacquer, but I think the nato olive was better choice than black.

Thanks for all who have given feedback. I appreciate it.

Painted and lacquer added. I didn't sand it in any point and did thick layers of paint to give it rough look. Then I did 3 layers of lacquer to protect the paint. Takes now day to dry well and I can continue then.

Huhhuh törkeen siisti! Kuhan saan omat projektit tehtyy niin pitää ottaa vähän mallia ja duunaa joku ton tyylinen broidille 40v lahjaks.

I made small board for the microcontroller and the radio module and wired the controller.

Just a few minutes ago, I flashed first version of the joystick program to the microcontroller and it worked! Well, start and select button were swapped but I can fix that by switching wiring. I'm going to add battery "slot" for the joystick and do some minor things, but I'm going to make another testing video later.

2 AM here and I wanted to go to bed. So no retakes -> shitty video, but here it is now

I also tested that it works at least from 5 meters away.

Very cool!

What kind of monitor is that? Looks kinda like a Commodore or Amiga RGB monitor, but I'm guessing it's not.

Looking at the stickers on it, were you part of the demo scene?
