I've got a couple of spare Dreamcast HKT-7300's from Japan that I'm going to convert over MVS sticks. Started working on this yesterday. Any thoughts on the art?

Going to paint one black, black rim/clear plunger, clear ball top or bat top. Not sure yet, but all parts will be Sanwa. I've already got a plexi top/bottom cut so I don't have to chop up the metal panel and I'll way down the stick inside.

I really wanted to do a SSII themed stick... any feedback or ideas would be nice. Not sure about this design.

I like the design but it could do with a bit more colour and you'll be on to a winner.

Just an example with a little bit of color. I never actually played with color as my initial thought was to create a woodgrain/paper look with the artwork etched/drawn on. Only problem is some of the characters are solely b&w.

The color does step it up a notch!! I can't wait to see what the final product will look like.
Are you going to remove the grey DREAMCAST panel and slide the plexi in it's place?

I would like it better with just one character per stick and the samurai spirits logo in the corner. Keep in mind that the stick's dust cover and the buttons will cover parts of the artwork, which would make it look even more cramped.

I'm going to replace the dreamcast panel completely (less work when modding) and use a plexi panel with the button layout above. I'm using gameonegrafix for the art and will have them do a adhesive backed polycarbonate laminate print and put it over the plexi. I'm going to replace the bottom metal panel with frosted plexi and may have the Neo Geo/MVS logo etched on the back vice on the artwork.

Decided I like the color look and came up with this (see below). These are the parts I'm going to use for modding the stick:

I kinda like the cramped look for what I'm going for. I thought about splitting it into two sticks since I'm going to do two, but changed my mind and think I'm going to do a Last Blade stick if this turns out nice. Everything I use will be clear except the dustwasher since I decided to go with a bat top to try and keep the artwork visible and I'll fill in the plungers with cutouts.

Anyways, this is what I came up with after some suggestions....

I like the color, but I was blown away by your first pic without it. The first pic gave me a very natural vibe, sort of old-timey too. I like how the details aren't completely clear, and how the characters blend into one another.

It's a really great design idea for stick, and whatever you do, it's gonna look badass:glee:

My vote? I like what you did without color. It's reminiscent of Sumi-e paintings. But either is cool--the color is definitely flashy. Perhaps clone the layer, hit the color only with a blending style, and have it be very transparent to split the difference...just to see what you like?

Also, keep in mind negative space. I think the first layout is the strongest...and you aren't covering any of the characters faces.

Either way, badass design.

One last note: sometimes plexiglas tops can sometimes make the buttons feel mushy. If you feel this happens and dislike it, I suggest either a lami-label (from any Kinkos) or sticky vinyl (like what they wrap cars with).

+1 here in favour of your original design.

The layout and lack of colour had a much better impact. The strong use of colour against your faux-wood approach doesn't really work imo.

The first design works best, right down to the opacitated 'overlay' effect of the NeoGeo MVS logo.

You definitely have the right idea though, as you've already cited your want to use a clear ball top etc...

Just wanted to chime in and compliment the design.
I think both the color or colorless layout are winners.
Nice job so far.

The finished product(s) should be done within the next two weeks. I've been working on a few other designs as well; Last Blade, Samurai Shodown III, and Garou MOTW. Here's a quick glimpse of the SSIII art. I'll have two different sticks complete in two weeks hopefully. The first one will definitely be done by then.

That looks great. I am currently modding some Tekken 5 sticks to be Neo Geo sticks and I would love something like this for those. Unfortunately I am keeping all 8 buttons since this will be used as a supergun stick too so I'm not sure how well the art would work with new holes.
