Arcade has those stupid first person levels
SNES has slowdown and other shit missing
Ergo: play Gradius II instead.

Gradius II on PSP Gradius Collection.

As per the original question, the slowdown in Gradius III isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you really prefer manic shooters. Besides, there was some slowdown in the original arcade version that this somewhat imitates, making it a tad easier. Despite this, it's still not an easy game, and the PS2 version of Gradius III is tough as nails. Still great fun though. I need to revisit it.

I actually enjoy all the versions of Gradius I have played. Each has their own bit of charm. Plus I'm a sucker for the series anyway. I still pride myself on being able to beat Gradius III on Snes with 1 man on arcade difficulty.

Gradius III for SNES was my first purchase after getting the system set, so I have lots of nostalgic memories associated with this game. I just wish the arcade game was more forgiving, and less expensive, as it's a beauty.

I completely forgive the slowdown in Gradius III. It's great.

I was waiting for someone to use the old popular "plagued by slowdown" line.

Anyone that plays G3 needs to play it on arcade difficulty, then you will be praising that fucking slowdown.

I like the snes game, but the slowdown blows and the lack of super scaler levels make it seem incomplete. That said, I think the snes wave table music>>arcade sound, and the arcade version is so brutally difficult I frequently give up after 15 min or so.

Oh and the pce version of gradius 2 is one of the best shmups ever made. I love that game.

Hah, yea that was one of my first purchases too, I remember beating it a few times then selling it to someone for 45.00, and of course getting it again later after realizing what I did by selling it, I know I only sold it to get another snes game at the time, what it was?! Ill never remember...heh..

I loved the bubble madness of it tho, sounds and sights I wont forget as well..

I like the SNES version of Gradius III, might be nostalgia there but to this very day I still enjoy it, I can understand why some people wouldn't like it for the fact of slowdown, but really, I've played FAR worse shmups with horrible framerate and messy slowdown.. As for Gradius II, hard to say, I've enjoyed every version I played: the Famicom one even wowed me, it really pushed the console's hardware in some areas, the PCE version is great, but the arcade version? Well.. Comparing console to arcade usually gets this answer and for good reason: the arcade version is the best.
