The Facebook post detailing the Mega Pack says there are some bonus items "for fans and collectors" in the larger box. Doesn't describe them any further than that.

Ok so, each Volume is $25 each. There are five volumes... are they going to sell this "Mega Pack" for $125... I'm curious to find out how much they think they can charge for it. I want to get each and every one of the packs just for collectors reasons, but I think anything more than $10 per pack is way too much.

My guess is paper box. The pictures they have shown (although they are only mockups) look liked cardboard boxes.

NEO-GEO X - It's all about the MEGS!
Mega pack 1: 527 MEGS
Mega pack 2: 630 MEGS
Mega pack 3: 950 MEGS
Mega pack 4: 1212 MEGS
Mega pack 5: 1014 MEGS
Total = 4333 MEGS
So, I am guessing the firmware update is about 48 megs, and the MEGA PACK only has one copy, rather than 5, hence the difference MEGS.
Still no word on if the firmware will be available without purchasing one of the game packs.
