You can only tell if a AES cart has EPROMs by its weight, or by opening it. Neither of those can be done through an eBay purchase.

Most people here lump them all together unfortunately, but an EPROM filled AES cart is definitely worse than one with Mask ROMs.

I once opened a Japanese bootlegged AES Twinkle with flash roms in it (fitted on adapters). It weighted exactly the same as the regular cart (maybe it was a few grams off but the difference was hardly noticeable.)

The game was sold as an original and came with offset an printed manual/sticker and insert, making me think that it was more than just a simple conversion made from a bootleg.

It made sense to me since the MVS for this game can be pricy (especially in Japan).

My friend had no clue it was fake until he put it up for sale and a potential buyer asked him to open the game :(

I never mentioned flash memory on adapters, those are always something to consider. I don't often see AES boots using them though. Most people pick the cheaper EPROM over flash.

Any ideas on, what's the bootleg risk these days, of purchasing a JP Last Blade 2 for AES from eBay sellers in Japan?

Hi

I recently got KoF 2000, but unfortunately it's a bootleg. I'm posting its pictures because it's not the usual boot with EPROMs or anything, see for yourself:

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone has purchased any AES games from this person on Ebay? I just began collecting the AES games and have found a lot of useful information on this site. I must say I'm very leery about shelling out a bunch of cash on the more expensive games when fakes are running around. Can you guys give me your opinion on this and let me know if you believe it to be legit? I know there are no pictures of the boards but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This user is also selling 3 and 4. Any input on those as well would be greatly appreciated.

If that 2 is fake, it's the best fake I've seen yet. The manual is a little suspicious but otherwise that 2 looks reasonably sound. Still you should ask for board pics.

His Slug 3 and 4 also look good. 3 in particular looks to have a PROGLBA board, you can't easily fake that, so it's probably real. I wouldn't expect someone to bootleg 4...

Thanks for checking these out. He is not willing to open the carts but did say he would give me 5 days after receiving them to get them checked out. He is going to email some high-res pictures tonight or tomorrow.

Metal Slug 1, obviously.
Metal Slug X
Twinkle star Sprites
Blazing Star
Totenou 4

I have come from the future to amend my statement to reflect BTG, and I believe Sengoku 2001 should be on the list as well.

you can get a partial look inside, not much but I guess it all helps, I got AES pulstar and there was no way I wanted to open it up, everything looks good but you never know, you can get a gap and look into one of the boards , I used a torch and magnifying glass its the solder side unfortunately but all the solder looked good and you can compare against scans to tell if the right amount of pins are there, also on the rear if you tilt the vents right you can see in again this one shows even less but may show something on certain games that should or should not be there

I am always lurking ebay ... though I always tend to be very suspicious on games like Ninja Masters for example.

So let's speak with real world examples. Right know there are these Ninja Masters AES on ebay

From seller Hit Japan:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEO-GEO-A...000?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4625d77d30

From seller VideoGameImports:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ninja-Mas...ideo_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item3f37f2a2df

From seller NeoAgeStore:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEO-GEO-A...9815121?pt=Console_Giochi&hash=item4adae1dcd1

From JapanRetroGameAndToys (what a name!)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NINJA-MAS...21663303?pt=FR_Jeux_Vidéo&hash=item5d4cdf5547

Are all of these conversions or fakes in your opinion? I've never ever bought a neo aes game from ebay. Only these forums and some UK related forums (Bordersdown, etc)

I highly recommend you stay away from any expensive AES cart coming from Japan or France. I'd say wait for an old timer to sell his copy on here if you want to be sure. You have no idea how real the frogot boots look nowadays, it's fucking sad :(

I'll never get into AES stuff, but it would be interesting to see pics of how good those boots really look.
