OutRun, specially Magical Sound Shower.

And then there's the wonderful soundtrack of Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.

...and hundreds of other tracks.
A week ago that track kept going through my head :lolz:

Double Dragon!

That's the first one to really make a lasting impression and still rocks to this day.

These days it's definitely Bethesda's Elder Scrolls and Fallout games.

An an honorable mention to Diablo 2.

Shame it's a great game. I never realised until getting into the MD 5 or 6 years ago (was always a SNES man myself), but Bloodlines was a game I couldn't put down. I played it back to back many times - both for the game and the amazing soundtrack. My fave 16-bit Castlevania > Rondo & IV. The more I think about it, the more you need to 'rectify' it...

So I started playing some Bloodlines last night.

Holy fuckballs this is fucking hard.

After playing the thoroughly engaging but mostly unchallenging Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate for 3DS, I am still in the slow lane. Time to get serious.

Jury is out on soundtrack. Still waiting to hear more of it. What's there so far is pretty good, but I have never been a fan of Genesis sound so the more tinny electronic aspects of it are noticeable to me. I think I just need more time with it to fully appreciate it. Not all Genesis music can be Streets of Rage 2.

A lot of people say "Yeah I'll have to replay this game when I get the chance" but you actually followed through. Hi five.

Game isn't that difficult...you'll learn the patterns if you stick with it.

Man, isn't it a beautiful game, though? Also, you are playing as Lecarde right? All cool dudes play as Lecarde.

AWWW but John Morris is a TEXAN! A TEXAN VAMPIRE HUNTER!

IV is a cool game and all, and Rondo of Blood is...OK, I guess, but if I wanna kill 40 minutes or whatever, I'll choose Bloodlines.

Iron Blue Intention, bro.

The music from Homeworld 1+2. The 'Turanic Raiders Theme' and 'Imperial Swarm Theme' are truly amazing!

Lately I have been enjoying PCE/TG-16 music the most. I enjoy all of the top Hudson Soft shooters for PCE/TG-16 for sure. My personal favorites are Lords of Thunder, Gate of Thunder, Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, and Air Zonk. Also, love me some Ys 1-4, Gradius 2, Bomberman '94, and Dracula X.

Some other various favorites of 16-bit goodness.

SNES: Super Metroid, Gradius 3, Wild Guns, Mega Man X, Final Fantasy 3, Actraiser, and Chrono Trigger.

Genesis/Sega CD: Snatcher, MUSHA, Thunder Force 4, Robo Aleste, Bloodlines, Hard Corps, Phantasy Star 4, Streets of Rage 2, and Silpheed.

Neo Geo/NGCD: Real Bout Special, Fatal Fury 1, KOF 94-98, Mutation Nation, Shocktroopers 1 and 2, Metal Slug 3, Last Resort, and Pulstar.

There's a lot for other consoles/arcade, but here are a few: Castlevania SotN, Final Fantasy 7, Lunar 1 and 2 remakes, Arc the Lad 1 and 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Saturn/PS1 AST), Ace Combat 2, Guardian Heroes, Contra Shattered Soldier, Dragon Quest 8 and Einhander. So, so many more I could list mostly gearing towards PS1 games.

Most memorable are NES games of course. I really like the music in Batman, Blaster Master, Mega Man 2, Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, Castlevania 3, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Jackal, Super C, Zelda and Snakes Revenge.

Now, for some NES favorites in stereo:

A hard question for me to answer considering that I listen to a lot of vg music.

I'm particularly a fan of Zuntata. I especially like the soundtracks for Ninja Warriors and G-Darius.

I loved their work on Night Striker, that soundtrack gets stuck in my head regularly:)

I don't really have a definitive favorite album as I am rarely blown away by a games entire soundtrack. I think the closest I can think of as far solid game albums are...

-Chaos Legion: Such an beautiful Gothic and epic soundtrack to a criminally underrated game. One of the first game soundtracks I could listen to all the way through. Feel a Fear (Sky Gallery)
-Megaman X: Its between the SNES and PSP OST at a song by song basis. The one thing i'm sure about is the SNES version of Sting Chameleon's theme is by far the best Megaman song ever.
-Guilty Gear AC+/Guilty Gear 2/Isuka: I'm cheating hear but sometimes I feel like the series is just one long album. If I had to chose, it'd AC but I the entire series very well composed. Best Metal inspired game album ever. Especially love Curtain Call and Cat Attached to the Rust.
-Vampire Chronicles: Cheating again but VH and VS both have excellent soundtracks and its hard to chose. Shadow's Ending Theme is fucking badass.
-Project Justice: I love the funky vibe and unique composition rarely seen in other game OSTs. Nailed the school vibe very well. Ziggy Amusement Park and Taiyo School Rooftops.
-Double Dragon II Arrange Album: I mean the original album was the fucking shit but this? It complements the game so well and the album even on its own is stupendous. Also, I never pass up an opportunity to post Escape to the Forrest.

I also love the music of the Casino stage of Sonic 3 and the credit roll theme of KoF2k...

...and hundreds of other tracks. Guess I'd go crazy if I had to make personal top-10 list of game music.

Just about any Mega Man music, and the background music in the Tower of Babel from Xenogears.

A lot of people always go on about how annoying the Mega Drive sounds. Yeah it can be tinny, as seen here:
(around 10:07)
But in all honesty, I think the MD is much better in terms of sound. It just sounds 'cooler'. That isn't to say the Super Nintendo (or ANY other games consoles) are not as good.
