Vote for your favourite handheld. Try to give a few reasons why you like it so much, rather that just giving a name. I'll try to list as many as i can remember but if you vote for something not in this list i'll put it on.

(current results 29/7)
----------------------
Game Boy/Color - 0 (surprising!)
----------------------
Game Boy Advance - 2
----------------------
Sega Game Gear - 1
----------------------
PC Engine - 1
----------------------
Sega Nomad - 4
----------------------
Atari Lynx - 1
----------------------
SNK Neo-Geo Pocket - 5
----------------------
Quickshot Supervision - 0 (not a surprise! :D )
----------------------
Bandai Wonderswan - 0
----------------------
GamePark 32 - 1
----------------------
Turbo Express - 1
----------------------

----------------------------------------------
i think that's everything. My vote goes to the Sega Nomad- Biggest and Best library of games, games can be found dirt cheap, back-lit screen, and great 6-button control.

runner up has to be the NeoGeo Pocket which misses out first due to the lack of titles.

vote away!!!

My fave: NeoGeo Pocket Color. Absolutely my favorite. Games range from $20-$45 for the most part, but almost every time they are worth it. It also has that mini-joystick, which provides great control for most games (Pac Man and Crush roller suffer a little becuase it's 8-way). The selection is small, but as long as you avoid the casino games, you'll do well. SNK vs Capcom: MOTM is one of my most favorite fighters EVER, not just among the handhelds, it actually makes it into my top 10 fighters along with NeoGeo and CPS2 fighters.

Runner up: Wonderswan (B/W, Color, AND crystal). There are a lot of good games for it, and a lot can be had for under $25. Plus, I love how whenever I whip it out in public, people are always astounded with how many buttons it has.

Second Runner up: Gameboy Advance. This system is great, has a lot of third party support, and good harware to boot. However, the D-pad is REALLY bad, and it's uncomfortable to hold and be able to reach the shoulder buttons at the same time. Not to mention the screen is frustratingly dim.

Third Runner up: Sega Game Gear. This system is okay, but it eats batteries like they're finger foods, thus keeping most tethered to an AC or car adapter. The screen IS backlit, but that makes games look washed out. Not to mention it is rather huge, so I can't put it in a pocket. But, games are REALLY cheap for the most part, and there are a lot of quality ones out there too.

My vote goes for NGPC, but that doesnt stop me from liking other handhelds too.

I doubt that any of those would be in serious contention. Still, each to there own.

I'd say it would be the Nomad and Neo Geo in joint first, as i have both of them, and they both have their plus and minus points.

The Nomad - An awesome number of games, backlit and brilliant screen, good contrtols; but a tad chunky.....

The Neo Geo - Just awesome games, small, great graphics, sound joystick control, multi format; not backlit and no more games.....

Man. I had this whole huge reply with detailed descriptions as to why I chose these systems, and then my comp crashed and I lost it all. i don't feel like doing it all over again right now.. so here's my list. If I feelt like it later I'll go back and explain why.

1. SNK Neo Geo Pocket Color
2. Nintendo GameBoy Advance
3. NEC Turbo Express
4. Sega Nomad
5. Sega GameGear

Honorable Mention:
Atari Lynx
All other GameBoy variations
And the two supposedly great systems I haven't played yet: GamePark 32 and Wonderswan Color/Crystal

Never Mention:
Tiger Game.com
Tiger R-Zone
Nintendo Virtual Boy (even though it's not handheld, it's still portable)

GameBoy Advance.

It's powerful, and they are still developing more and more games for it. Plus now it also has that backlight kit.

I was never able to afford the PC Engine/Turbo Express when it came out so I can't say anything about that system.

But I have to go with the Gameboy Advance. If Metroid Fusion is one half the game that Super Metroid is then that's all I need. Plus Golden Sun and follow up, Castlevania games, Ghouls n Ghosts, Contra, hopefully a new 2D Mario game and so forth.

I really think that when all is said and done the GBA will have a hell of a library of games. Hopefully someone can bring a few SNK titles to the system. Sure they wouldn't be arcade perfect but Neo Blood looks pretty dammed good to me.

sega game gear, though it had a bad port of ffs. it had shinobi, and wasn't as expensive as the nomad was at the time.

NGPC. The best good game to bad game ratio. Plus the quality of the games are amazing. Look at MS, MOTM, KOF R2, SS2.......... the list goes on and on.

The control stick is another great feature. Sure beats that tiny cross pad on GBA.

Lets not forget the cases, especially the European and Japanese hard cases. They're awesome.

well since I am an fart {31}

I still to this day prefere the ATARI LYNX

above all others , mostly because of the backlit screen.

I like the origional LYNX over the second one,
the first gen had a much better feel to it and the screen had a slightly better glare guard on it.

Also there are tons of games for it , and most of them are actually really good quality and good fun.

My second fave is NGPC of course.

I have never been impressed with any of the handheld Nintendo products.

The GBA is ok but the screen is really horrible !

It seems like you have to hold almost flat to make anything out on it, at least thats how it was when I fooled with my friends.

I would consider one if I was willing to put an afterburner kit in it though, I just havnt seen anything i need to own for it.

My fave is and I think will always be the Nomad. The screen and library of games are just wonderful. The D-pad is perfect and has all six buttons. Best handheld version of SF2!

Second would be the NGPC. I only own 5 games but they are wonderful games and the actual system is the most confortable I've ever used. The screen does wonders without a backlight.

I would like to think that the GBA would overtake the NGPC some day but the screen is a serious detriment. I'll oen one eventually and love the games but strictly as a handheld, it will forever lag behing my first two picks mainly because of the screen (the d-pad is bearable at best).

I have 3 favs that I cannot rate cause I LOVE em all!

NGPC
GBA
Nomad

The reasons are:

NGPC: GREAT little system, FUN & INNOVATIVE games such as CFC, Faselei! & even though there isn't a huge library of games, most of them are top tier. Plus, it's SNK... NUFF said! ;)

GBA: I have one with the Afterburner mod & when you can see the screen I think It's a great system with ALOT of potential... you can play GBC titles, such as the Zelda's, Yugioh!, the DW series & Shantae for starters. Then you have the SNES ports... yeah it's a bit lame, but at least you can play some of your favs. on the go. Then there will be Metroid Fusion... That game will be INCREDIBLE!

Nomad: Genesis games on the go... can you say the entire Genesis LIBRARY? Fun stuff & the system's got a great backlit screen. The only downside is it's a battery Killer...heh.

Do you guys think GP32 will have a chance to be one of the best handheld if it is released worldwide (US and Japan for example)??

Turbo Express is *exactly* the same as a turbografx 16. The problem I have with handhelds based on consoles is they are always so HUGE, eat batteries and look like a blind 5-year old designed them...

As far as I'm concerned, there isn't really a handheld completely worthy of this title.

Why?

-Nomad is almost perfect, with a solid library of games and enough buttons, but it sucks batteries like a whore.

- TGXpress would be great, but it also sucks batteries, and can't play imports w/o an adapter/can't play CD games

- NGPC is almost perfect too, but no backlight, and while the selection of games tops all other handhelds, the amount of games is limited and will no longer grow.

- GBA - Backwards compatibility with a bijillion games for B+W and Color, it plays imports out of the box, and Advanced has a great games selection. Too bad that screen is so hard to see and it wasn't re-designed for beefy American hands. The system needs more buttons and a better controller, too.

It's a dead-solid tie.

NGPC, I've owned alot of handhelds but this one has had the most playability on the road. I also one to give a nod to the tiger game.com for it's resident evil 2 port.
