Hopefully I'll get my PVM back from the shop soon, then I can join the club too :)

So I got in on the $150 NOS PVM-20M2U thanks to broken's tip earlier in the thread.

Box came a bit beat up and after opening found the lower left corner broken. Just the plastic on the front panel broke off, no damage to the rest of the chassis.

Other than that everything worked great. Well S-video works. Will have to get some RGB cables next.

Aww damn that sucks :(

Least it works.

I would definitely email the seller to see what can be done.

I am a firm believer that it's the sellers responsibility to ensure that an item is delivered to you in the stated condition. And brand new in the box most certainly doesn't equal fucked up broken corner plastic regardless if the shipper was responsible or not.

Was it double boxed? It should have been.

If it was in its original box why would it need double boxing? It and many thousands more like it left Japan and traveled all over the world in their original boxes and didnt get damaged!!

If it wasnt in its original box with original inserts to protect it, then calling it new in box is incorrect. New in box implies brand new, unused and 100% complete as it leaves the factory.

Unfortunately it was not double boxed but I believe the unit was probably dented from the get go.

sale link

Note the last pic. My box is either the middle one or the bottom one of that pile. You can tell the box looked a bit beat.

All the seller did was throw in additional peanut foam in the box. And did 2 black bands on the box. That was it. I think he advertised double boxing but that did not happen.

Oh well. I had thought about getting a buddy that lives in SD to pick it up for me, but there's no way he could move that in his camry with the box intact.

I contacted the seller and he said he can refund $15 so I'll take that.

Now if only I can find time to play more that'll be great. Testing the pvm was the first time i turned on the mvs in months.

I think they meant to say packaging and box. Those little plastic loops that one of yours are obliterated of are removable so it won't look bad if you can straighten the bent part a bit without breaking it and take the one from the other side off. or break off and dremel both sides down to match.

its possible you don't have ocd and can stand to just leave it though:glee:

My little hook dealies are door handles now-a few chunks of wood is a good way to hide your problem too.

that looks sick karou. I need to get one of these for sure and i like your idea of casing it like that. you know its funny because the only time a played on one of these was in the hospital in 5th grade my apendix ruptured and i was in the hospital for a week and someone had just recently donated a super nintendo to the hospital with donkey kong country (which had just come out) and i played the crap out of that game while i was there and i remember thinking WOW this looks so much better than my TV. I didnt wanna leave there LOL.

Did the hospital nurses hook it up via RGB?

Yes, you must! The neo output in RGB is 10x times better than S-video. I found S-Video to be on marginally better than composite with the Neo.

Damn, only $15?

That's kinda shitty, but I guess better than nothing.

The seller said his profit on these are only $15 and that was the most he can get back to me. Oh well.

But at least i finally got a PVM after all these years :D

I have a 20M2MDU. I love it, and want a 2nd to go with it. I have more consoles than it has connections.

Not a PVM, but a late-80's Trinitron that has S-video and composite with RCA stereo.

I've got a 2530 too, but I mostly use the 25 pin connector... actually I've never used the BNCs on it. The place where I have it makes it a pain to reach in the back where the inputs are... But the unit has the 25pin and BNC RGB inputs so you could use either cable below. Maybe just go with the cheaper cable (25pin), unless you plan on getting other model PVMs. The newer ones tend to only have BNC inputs for RGB.

Then get cables like these for your systems.

For me, because all that's on the more expensive side I'm actually making my own little project box for it. That'll also mean I can customize what goes into it so...

I'm still waiting for broken to ship out my cable so I can use the euro scart cords I ordered, but once it comes in I should take tons of pictures. I love my 2D games in component on the thing (through the homebrew channel) and I can't wait to see what RGB looks like.

Can I expect any difference between component and RGB?

Has anyone done any side by side pictures of the difference (if any)

Ships this Friday!

As far as the difference between component and rgb, it's probably going to be pretty small on a 20 inch monitor. Though I would still go RGB regardless. Besides some of the consoles in the last 10 years, there really isn't any great need to worry about component video anyways. RGB = king!

As long as you're listening, what does using composite as sync mean? I know my PVM can make use of it, but I would still like to know what that actually does, and how it works.

I remember people complaining that the PS2 syncs on green, and that being a big deal, so anyone feels like educating my on this I would appreciate it.

I made this thread long ago. It's running off a 29 inch monitor. So if you have a 20 inch monitor, the difference will be even less noticeable.
