I got a nice little rolling TV stand off Craig's for 15$, think it looks pretty sharp holding the Sega stack.
I Also picked up a Sega CD and replaced its original damaged laser with a JVC Optima 6s.

I haven't got them printed yet, but this is what I've got in queue...

I think some clear contact paper should hold them in place, and provide a nice laminate to protect from damage. I thought about having them printed on adheasive vinyl from Game On Grafix but the price for custom prints is actually pretty high.

I thought there was someone here that made custom decals if you send him some PNGs and some monies.

No such setting exists on mine. Here's a better representation of the problem:

cmg6q9r.jpg

So I found this video today and decided to try it out myself with great results.

Here's the video:

Since the PVM is housed in a metal enclosure, I simply attached a couple magnet clips to the metal. I'll eventually do a better job when I can. Once you find the correct position you're pretty much golden. If anyone else decides to do this as well, try to be careful. Also be sure to press the degauss button once in a while as this will cause some slight discoloration initially.

Here's a pic of the quick ghetto magnet job I did:

Here's the current results:

Again, once it's not so friggin cold outside I'll hit up a hobby shop and pick up some magnets with adhesive. Hope this helps someone with a skewed screen like mine.

Awesome, thanks so much! I'll try to give that a shot this weekend.

Also I finally figured out all of you have been using the 240p Test Patterns. I feel stupid for using my crappy calibration DVDs. Will give that a try too.

I don't know the actual condition of these PVM's but a possible client linked me to this guy on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221089875010?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I decided to take the gamble and bought two of them from him. He accepted the offer of $15.00 for one of them. I will post later tonight if they actually work well. The dude is meeting me sometime after 5:30 tonight to hand them both off to me. He only charged me $20.00 (shipping would have been $60.00 for the both of them) total to drive them down from Scottsdale and meet me closer to my house. Both monitors cost me $60.00 together. If just one of them works it would have been a great deal.

If these work I plan to put it on my desk next to the HDTV. I'm going to have the scart switch going into the PVM then the RGB lines coming out of the PVM into the XRGB mini so I can use the HDTV when I have company over (its larger).

First time poster here;

Bought a PVM(20m2mdu) almost a year ago, and have been in love with it since. As most of you know, photos just don't do it justice. Despite that, I've amassed quite a few in past 11 months and thought I'd post a few

and while I have had much interaction with NeoGeo stuff, I have manage to get at least a few pictures of Metal Slug X(WiiWare over Component), this just happens to be one of the ones I have uploaded.

Now, I must ask; What would be the best way to go about getting a 480p compatible CRT for 6th Gen+ systems?

I apologize ahead of time if large photo dumps like this are frowned upon.

I believe the PVM-20L5 will do 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Ebay or Craigslist are probably your best bet (although they tend to be way overpriced on eBay).

Nice stuff! 20M2MDU's are really nice.

Any normal VGA monitor does 480P and up. If you really want to splurge, get a PVM 20L5, it'll do 240p through like 1080.

Skips, if those work, you got a steal. Let us know!

PVMs don't tend to pop up in my area, so I've been keeping an eye on ebay for a while now. I was never quite sure on whether they supported 480p+ on their own, or if a decoder board was needed. I guess this confirms the former.

Yeah, I have an old Dell monitor(E770 I believe), but I'm not sure on how I could go about hooking up ,for example, my Gamecube to it. Dreamcast would obviously be much simpler.

Don't even bother with the gamecube. It takes a somewhat risky mod to the (now) extremely rare/expensive d-terminal or component cable to get VGA. Seriously, fuck that.

PS2's you can get to work in 480p with some games, but you either need a sync on green capable monitor (most sonys) or an extron SS 200 to strip the sync on green. An advantage to the extron is it'll give you dsub output from BNC input, and you can use BNC to RCA adaptors and a PS2 component cable. The PITA with the PS2 is you need to boot on a normal 480i display first, then enable progressive scan, then switch to your VGA monitor. More trouble than it's worth for most. See my old thread here http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=11448

Either way, a 20L5 is your best bet all around, since it'll do component/RGB and all the formats.

Found this today cruising c-list. was listed for $150, shot the guy a offer of $50 and he responded with $100, then countered with $80 if I came and got it tonight. Shot a email off to James at JNX to make sure I was getting what I wanted and he told me to jump on it. Drove 80 miles round trip to get the damn thing and couldnt be happier. While its not the ones I see on here with the cool tube frames, this one has a built in speaker and overall boxy design that makes placing gaming units on the top easier and I like the buttons and knobs on the front. And now with pictures!

Model is PVM-20M4U. Dont know much about it and would love if anyone could give me the whole nine yards on it.

Congrats on scoring that monitor :D ! 20M4U is what I currently use. As far as 20" PVMs go, it's one of the more desirable ones. It's one of the later PVM models, so they tend to be in pretty good condition. It's a great monitor for 240p and 480i material. It handles virtually every signal type for these classsic gaming resolutions - composite, s-video, component, RGBS, RGB sync on green. Hell, you can even get away with RGBHV by connecting H to the ext sync input and V to the ext sync output or vice versa. It won't do 480p and above, but I prefer my LED HDTV for that stuff anyway.

20M4U's are fucking nice. I have a 20M2MDU, several 1943MD's, and a 20M4U. The 20M4U is the nicest by far. If you need help getting into the service menu let me know.

Where'd you have to go to get that, Skinny? I've been looking at CL daily and haven't found anything decent around. Nice GET!

I have the 14L5 (it will display 15khz~45khz, 240p~1080p) and this method of connection will not sync. I have to mix H and V together with this...

bnc_t_connector.jpg

Then connect to "ext sync in" only.

You do realize that "composite sync" isn't just Horizontal + Vertical sync wired together, right?

While this does work, you are putting unnecessary stress on the graphics chipset of whatever you are using. It's a good way to burn up your source component especially if it's older stuff.

There are several simple circuits on the web that will properly and safely merge H+V sync together and provide you with Composite sync.

Or you could use something like the UMSA - Ultimate Scart Adapter to do the same thing:
http://arcadeforge.net/UMSA/UMSA-Ultimate-SCART-Adapter::57.html

on another note, How is the image quality on the 14L5 or 20L5?

Still get proper scanlines? How well does it handle higher res interlaced signals?

My 240p consoles (the Genesis and Saturn) output a real CSync, so I only need to connect 4 BNC cables (R/G/B and ext sync-in) to the PVM...
No need for the T-adapter at all.

The Dreamcast (VGA 640x480) and my laptop (SVGA 800x600 or higher) both require 5 cables (R/G/B/Hsync/Vsync) and the T-Adapter, or the image looks the same as if I don't plug in any sync at all...
Totally scrambled!

Scanlines are only noticeable/visible in 240p, once I step into 480p they are gone completely.
Also, once I jump into 720p (1280x720) or 1080p (1920x1080) I have to set the widescreen option to enable or it looks scrambled, as these are of course 16:9 only ratios.

Because I got the PVM new-in-box, I have the manual for it. If I take a walk (its GD cold out) I can have access to a scanner if anyone is interested.

20131024_142326-1.jpg20131024_142341.jpg20131024_142519-1.jpg

What would you recommend in place of the T-adapter? I don't have/use scart at all so that device is of zero use to my setup.

Nice! I was hoping they were still visible in 240p. I wonder if this monitor flickers any in higher interlaced res's?

You could easily build a male scart to BNC cable to go from the UMSA to your display.

However, there are several simple circuits that are available to do the same thing. Will require some soldering though.

The simplest is this one by viletim:
syncadd.png

Basically a diode on H sync and a resistor on the V sync.

More involved circuit:

Thanks broken! I'll get to work making a real Csync adapter using the viletim (looks super easy) diagram ASAP.

The only time I've seen the PVM flicker is when connecting S-Video input, the image seems to jitter ever so slightly.
I'm almost certain this is from analog "noise" and not any fault of the CRT itself, as again this isn't happening with BNC cable input.

I'll be most likely picking up x2 Sony PVM-2950Q units. The seller hasn't told me the model yet, but thats the only model I could find that is 27" inches. Also, anyone know the difference between 2950Q and 2950Q(M)? Online it seemed the M version is European, but i'm not entirely sure about this. The monitor appears to have a nearly flat tube design which I'm excited about...especially for some vert shmup action. Any info would be appreciated.

I did find this video though, but I don't speak dutch.
