^man im really digging your setup

well i just finished an RGB and blue LED mod on one of my spare N64s. Thinking im gonna take it apart and do emblem shine mod as well. wish i'd done it before i put it all back together but eh. no biggie. I've done it before and I remember it not being a very difficult mod.

heres some pics of it on my recently acquired PVM 20L5

the single blue light up top in some of those picks is the N64 LED.

Picked Puyo Puyo Sun since it seemed like that would be good game to showcase bright colors. Took on my cheap ass camera phone so please forgive the quality

yeah, no shit :lolz:

looking good there! Didn't know there was an emblem shine mod, but I'm not into lighting up my consoles - seems unnecessary. The RGB mod is well worth it though and it shows in those pics. Well done.

It's even better now since you can pick up Tim's board with borti's deblur firmware.

deblur filter? I have never even heard of that. Is that similar to Poregon's anti-aliasing patches?

well anyways. i just finished the emblem mod.

Dang so im back on trying to get RGB out of my Wii and decided to finally get into region switching.

Im using Any Region Changer since there doesnt seem to be much danger of a brick but im still hitting a snag. I switch my video region to PAL and it does indeed give me RGB but everything is in fucking 50hz 576i. Now i AM able to switch over many of my games to output PAL60 but it seems to be confusing my Wii or my monitor or something because it really wants to give PAL50 576i and i still have to do all kinds of tinkering in the settings to get it to do right.

The problem, the primary reason i want RGB is for virtual console and WiiWare games and even that stuff is automatically converting to PAL50hz 576i.

I mean they are NTSC games right? Shouldnt be putting 240/480 and 60hz regardless of what video mode my Wii is in? Plus i didnt touch the console region or anything else. I only changed the video....

Componenet isn't too bad but i already noticed from switching back and forth that RGB is noticeably better.

Now im wondering if its even possible to get full access to RGB on a NTSC wii or do i need to shell out for a PAL unit. Even then wont i end up having the same problems?

TLDR:
Has anyone here had any success getting full RGB with NTSC resolutions out of your NTSC wii?

I love the color coding in the corners aaronmjr. Not a thing I have to do as a single NEC owner :keke: I did some testing of all different versions of Sega Genesis consoles last Saturday and thought of this pic immediately. Lol. Sonic was our test game.

Fantastic pictures, aaronmjr. :D

Agreed. Those pics are pure sex.

Thank you!

No love for the little GX hiding in the back?

Maybe sometime! I've had that since '98 or so. Bought it brand new from Electronics Boutique at the Mall of America! There's a guy within driving distance who is convinced he can do an OSD RGB mod on it. I'm tempted!

Haha. The previous owner put them on there and I kinda like them. :D Nice! What did you find? I feel like RGB from a model 1 is the sharpest, but the X'Eye is damn close.

I never tried an X'Eye but I've compared the rest and I always thought the best video possible on a Genesis was either through a model 1 or CDX. Both have minimal jailbars which can be reduced with some modification, but they provide the sharpest and nicest picture imo. The 32X gives no jailbars at all but the picture appears to be softer.

The jungle chip in it is relatively simple and it shouldn't be too hard to do. If I hadn't accidentally shorted out the final stage driver on mine, I'd have mine modded for RGB right now. Really need to fix the poor thing, it's a really nice little thing.

I am not personally willing to dig in and possibly wreck it, so I'll definitely be leaving it in a capable someone's hands. I haven't heard of or seen anyone post about having done it to a GXTV. Very curious what it would look like running RGB.

Once I get mine fixed, I'll be sure to post some photos of it if I manage to get RGB working properly on it.

We had a pretty good selection of consoles. We had a Non-TMSS HD Graphics model 1, TMSS HD Graphics model 1, full motherboard Model 2, VA3 3/4 motherboard model 2, and a VA4 3/4 motherboard Model 2. We tested them side by side with a PVM-14M4U and a 13" Sony Wega with component video through FusionITR's SCART to component box. I would have loved to grabbed pics but I had a ton of friends over checking it out and playing games. The PVM had a lot more sharpness and had much more correct looking colors. No matter how I messed with the Wega's brightness it looked oversaturated. Don't get me wrong. It looked much better than regular A/V or S-video, but the PVM was easily the clear winner. In terms of cables we were pretty limited. I had multiple RGB cables for model 2s but unfortunately my friend forgot his model 1 RGB cables. The 3/4 motherboard model 2's seemed to be the clear winners with the VA4 having better audio. Picture looked exactly the same. We also tested everything through regular AV as well. The 3/4 motherboards seemed to look really good and so did both model 1s. The model 1s had a bit more blurriness to them but still looked really good and colors looked spot on. Their audio was really good too with the Non-TMSS sounding a little better of the two. A couple weird things to note. The Non-TMSS model 1 had no jailbars on the PVM through AV but did on the Wega through AV. We had 2 full length motherboard model 2's and one would only play part of the audio. It was really funny. It made it sound like Sonic's audio was on an Atari. Once I have every Genesis motherboard and all the cables I will probably make a big comparison post. I will eventually have all revisions including Mega Drive as well. Sega is kinda my thing right now :keke:

Looking forward to it. Shame you couldn't compare the RGB between the Model 1 and Model 2 consoles - that'd have interested me the most.

I haven't had every single Genesis console ever, but I've had a lot of them, and I haven't found RGB to vary too much from revision to revision. Later models are a little sharper than earlier ones, but it's barely a difference. Composite video quality varies greatly, and sound...boy, you don't want me to get started on sound.

Given that arcade games were made before digital TVs came into existence, it's not really surprising that CRT TVs are better suited for this type of game.

Hi everyone. So after a while of searching here in the UK managed to get myself a Sony PVM 20L2. After moving house I had to get rid of my old Sony Trinitron 32" CRT and have been looking for a smaller replacement for a while now.

While I know it's not the best PVM available the prices here in the UK are pretty high and it's even harder to get a 20" model for a good price as they are the size most gamers want including myself.

It's a 20" model, amazing condition with only a few cosmetic marks on the casing as expected. Screen is pretty much perfect and games look great. Currently have my Modified Pal SNES hooked up to it and it looks great. I do have a little bit of color bleed with the SNES so am going to get a better RGB cable from Retro Gaming Cables here in the UK and hope that will help.

I also tried out my GameCube via RGB and man does it look stunning on this monitor! The SNES looks good but the GameCube really does look amazing.

Here are a few pics of the PVM.

I do however have one issue that I want to throw out there to see if it's fixable. I asked this in another thread but wanted to put it here.

So after going through everything in the service menu I can't seem to fix this small issue if anyone can offer up any advice? If you look at the test pattern everything is perfect apart from the top left area of the image that has a bend. Otherwise the geometry is spot on. Could this be a magnet issue?

Any reason why this is?

Ha, thanks, that's what I thought/hoped. My modded "high definition graphics" PAL Mega Drive looks damn good in RGB ;)
