Well, I'm finally part of the club! After giving up hope that I would ever find a RGB capable CRT in GA, I finally got myself an NEC 29. Now I'm diving into research on cables and switches. I want to RGB mod my Fami Twin and my PC Engine Duo. Any referrals on a good modder that can do both?

You will need a scart to BNC with a sync stripper like this for your NEC http://www.ebay.com/itm/Male-RGB-Eu...562?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee33efcaa
They don't like composite video sync, only composite sync

Already ordered myself a Sync Strike, though I see most SCART cables from RetroGamingCables can be had with pure sync on 21. Only switch I was able to find that had decent reviews was the Hama 100S. Seems all the bandridge's have dried up.

Using a BNC to SCART cable with a sync stripper. I've had good luck with a Mad Catz SCART switch.

yeah big advantage to using a scart to bnc with built in lm1881 is it powers the lm1881 from the console so you dont need to use another ac adapter and frees up the dsub plug for VGA use

Assuming the cable is sending the voltage. I thought I had read that some cables dont send the voltage for the inline stripper.

Yep, or a modded system without the 5V line might not, sometimes running your SCART through a switch will cause it not to get power as well.

Well I have all my consoles RGB and all the cables I've bought pre made were ready to go so I haven't had a problem at all. The less things I have to plug in and less electronics out the better

Someone using RGB with the dreamcast can confirm: DC games will not fill the entire PVM screen?

I've tried a few and there's always a big space left in each side. I actually did the neo geo hatch test and I'm getting an image filling the entire screen.

As with many systems, adjusting screen placement and sizing is normal. I use a DC on a PVM with a home-made 15khz RGB cable (identical to official scart cable aside from pulling csync instead of cvid) and I don't have to make any large adjustments, but some adjustments may be in order.

It doesn't only vary by system, but also how the monitor itself is setup in the first place. For the way M2MDU is configured, most of my systems fill the screen with a small portion lost to overscan.
I will say though, it seems some Dreamcast games play REALLY safe when it comes to overscan; Where there's only a small portion of unused screen with Sonic Adventure 2, Street Fighter Third Strike has decently large gaps(1cm+) on each side in 240p mode. Didn't think to check 480i, but I'd assume it would be similar.

Are you using a VGA box that also has SCART output or a standalone RGB cable for the Dreamcast?

Im using a 29" Bang & Olufsen LE6000 CRT, connected up using an RGB scart.
Picture looks great and is much more authentic than the Framemeister I was using previously.

I don't think I've hooked my DC to my PVM yet (I usually use the VGA monitor) but it's pretty normal on a variety of systems. I keep mine adjusted so that there is some overscan going off the screen to keep most systems full screen, but there are a few notable exceptions, like the Genesis. When I first got the thing I adjusted it for the Genesis to keep games fullscreen with none of the solid color overscan border, but it made the other systems terrible as very important things like lifebars were totally off the screen.

Every once in a while I remember to check craigslist for RGB monitors and I always find very few and they're always overpriced. I recently happened to find an ad for an immaculate Panasonic BT-H1390Y for $100 Canadian, by searching for "broadcast monitor".

It took a while for the guy to respond, but in the end I got it yesterday and he included the manual, a Sony color calibration manual and a print out calibration guide.

I ordered an RGB-to-BNC cable and today I picked up RCA adapters to use component in the meantime.

It is the perfect size for the game/art/computer room in my new place, after downsizing from having three rooms of my own in my last place. I play console games on a 27" crt I bought new a few years ago, but I will now be playing all Neo Geo and arcade games on this monitor. I planned out every square foot of my room, but had exactly enough space left on my desk for this monitor and the 13" screen size looks perfect while sitting in my desk chair.

I had to adjust a few things to get it to work with my Analogue cmvs, but even without any calibration, it already looks amazing. :)

I'm now feeling much better about getting rid off all but one of my arcade cabinets before the move. I can still play 2-button jamma games in my Final Fight cab, but it will be lots of fun using a supergun and this monitor for the rest. :)

That is a nice picture.

I have not seen too many Panasonic video monitors. It would make sense that the major players in the electronics world would also produce these.

Jelly of the FF cab, you have pictures posted somewhere?

Nice pickup. It looks sharp. I have a very sold Panasonic professional monitor, but sadly it won't do RGB.

I originally bought the cabinet without any game in it. I can't remember if it had the marquee, because I eventually wound up with multiples. The exterior was rough and worn (sides were yellow colored), so I sanded the sides down and repainted everything I could. I added the bezel and side art after receiving the game board from a former arcade operator who was a friend of my in-laws. He had a shed full of old cabs and various parts that he gave me for free.

So I got everything in pieces, but wound up with a complete dedicated cabinet. I similarly refurbished cabinets for SFII WW, Sidearms, a cocktail for Black Tiger and one I converted into a Mame cabinet.

This is the only cabinet I have now. My Wife insisted that we have one on the main floor. I don't think she's paid enough attention to it to realize that artwork depicts hooker battling. :P

It took some cosmetic damage during the move, but after I got it inside, I added some wheels to the base so that I can easily slide it out from the wall to swap out the pcbs.

Does anyone know if Daewoo CRT TVs are any good? There's one on the side of my street that looks decent and is probably from the '90's. I was thinking about grabbing it.

Welcome to the club. I got the JVC equivalent after Skips posted an excellent review. I don't use anything else when I play old games on my own.

And here I thought this was the worst of the worst.
Just checked out the add and holy crap? nobody is gonna ever pay him that much. Even if it's for "the holy grail" of classic gaming.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised while researching it before buying, that it happened to be a good monitor with a lot of lines. At first I wasn't sure about the screen size, but it's much different seeing it in person. :)

You would be surprised. I think an auction on ebay not too long ago resulted in one selling close to that asking price.

I have pretty much resigned myself to not ever being able to obtain this or any other of the holy grail monitors due to price and scarcity. I'm glad I was able to scoop up my 2030 and 2530 when I did; they are solid if entry-level monitors. The prices on monitors in general seems to be trending upwards.
