Being honest - I bought this game for a couple reasons:

Support indie work in hopes of continued titles on the neo.
I dug the artwork...a lot.
It looked like something my wife might actually spend 10 minutes on - which is saying something; she really doesn't "get" gaming.

Notice "looking forward to gameplay" missing from the list of reasons.

Well, I can now say it should have been on the list.

When looking for titles to bring to my parents house for Christmas Eve (only my kids and my brother-in-law game...at all) I was trying to find stuff that would have the most chance at engaging the group. I brought KoF 98' as the sole fighter, Twinkle Star Sprites, and Knight's Chance.

I initially thought we'd try them all out - TSS would be the crowd favorite for an hour and then we'd move on to just the boys playing KoF. That didn't happen.

First game in was Knight's Chance...and it was the only game we put in for 3 hours. We had 15 people in the room and everyone would get turns playing Mystic Dice or Cursed Mynd. Everyone has advice on what to keep in the dice game - everyone thinks your an idiot for cashing in too early...everyone yelling at the screen. It was an absolute blast - a neo game that can truly be a party game. Can't recommend enough.

Bought the AES carts and the MVS Collectors Edition with some decks of cards, and everything arrived fast and in nice boxes well packed. :buttrock:

I am going to play the game tomorrow on the AES using the converter and MVS cart, and will let everyone know what I think about it. :)

My wife loves the cards, and I will admit they are well made. The posters are really nice, and I love the art work. It reminds me of Crossed Swords and I love those games. The mini marquee is really cool, and it is nice to finally get one with an MVS Kit! :)

I really do like the entire presentation, but I also feel a few things were lacking. Full review coming soon on youtube, and I plan to do something a bit extra after I give the game a good 1 week playthough. Stay tuned. :snack:

All the pics can be found on my FB page. New ones will be taken due to some pics being blurry. I won't be taking pics at nighttime again, as somehow daytime pics just seem to be much clearer. Can't wait to give this game some time to really get a feel for it.

This is going to be a fun week, which is fantastic as December has kicked my ass due to back surgery, and getting prepared for the upcoming neck surgery... ugh! :(

Many thanks to Jeff for making this game, and here's hoping for some new games in the future. :vik:

Just post the links in here once you're done. Always good to get more exposure for this great game.

Will do, and thanks for being patient with me on this, I really want to play the hell out of the cart and see everything there is to see before I say anything about it. :)

You best be beating the high scores then.

I like the game as well, but I have not spent a lot of time on it to be honest. Never been big on gambling style games, though the memorization game is fun. From the sound of it, its a crowd pleaser. Need to bust it out with some friends.

I agree w/ mjmjr25 this game is the best family/ freinds game. Still trying to figure out Mystic dice great game once you get the mechanics of it down. Love Cursed Mynd really sweet game w/ the wife. The intro and just everything about this game is vintage Neo. Jeff and his team that worked on this really spent an enormous amount of time getting the "look" to this game that only the Neo has.

This is why I am going to be playing this with my wife as well. It seems to be better as a two player game than one player. I will be spending many hours a day for a full week before I give any opinions on it, as the game seems to have a lot more depth to it than your everyday shooter or beat-em up style game. Also, since it has 4 games in one, I plan to give each game a days worth of looking into, and see how each game pans out individually. This looks to be quite fun. I did LOVE playing a casino game on the Turbo Grafx 16 when I was a kid, I believe it was called King of Casino IIRC, so I am hoping I can enjoy this just as much.

Oh and @ Xian Xi, I will do my best! :D

is it worth the $499.99 for AES ?

And is there going to be a MVS version ?
If you had read the thread you would know: yes, it's worth it and there already was a MVS print, which you have missed obviously.

Thanks again for your patience on my review. I have REALLY played the fuck out of this game, and it is like reviewing 4 games in one, and all of them play so different, feel so different, and have so many varying levels of ...well everything, from graphics, to music, I just needed a long time to really sink my teeth into the game, and my review will reflect on this. To be honest I have topped the high scores many times beating out the number one place that is normally there, and seen the ending multiple times. The review is, simply put, much much longer than I expected it to be, and I am trying to sum it up to be short, but I am having a bitch of a time in doing so, and I still need to REALLY play the dice game, and finish the review, as that is my final game to check out, and to be honest, I kind of have a hard time understanding it. lol But, I am reading up on how it is played, and beginning to understand it. Some have asked, "is the game worth the price point?". My simple, straight forward answer to that is "fuck yes, it is".

I hope to have the review completed, with pictures a plenty, in the next few days, as recently I have been super busy with many things, but all in all, this game is so damn different than what I had expected it to be. The quality is higher than I expected, the gameplay is also much more fun than I expected, even the music, in some cases, is better than I thought as well. Final words before the review hits, Jeff, you made a fucking great game for your first outing on the Neo-Geo, and you deserve serious respect for this project. The game is definitely Neo-Geo worthy, and if this game were "found" to be a game by SNK, it would not surprise me, as it is real Neo-Geo quality from start to finish. My hats off to you, and the ones that helped you make this game a reality! Good job!

Full review coming soon! (yeah, I know I said it before, but damn it, this game IS 4 games in 1, lol, give me time) :D Later guys.

I am more curious of when will get a tease on Jim's next project. I read an interview a couple months back that seemed to hint he was working on something.

I am interested in knowing how to make the top 5 scores in the dice game. It seems very hard and afaik, it's not possible to beat the top one of 15k.

Regards.

Very doable. It just depends on how you play. 1s are the best to keep.

So for example, if you roll:

1
1
1
5
4
2

You keep the three 1s but even though the 5 gives you points, do not take it. Leaving it in the playable dice group gives you a better chance at getting a 1 instead or even another set of triple 1s.

If you roll:

1
2
2
2
4
4

Just keep the 1, do not take the triple 2s as it isn't really worth it. Just reroll them, only time I take triples is if they are 1s, 5s and 6s. The only time I take 2s, 3s or 4s is if it clears the board and I get to roll 6 dice again. If you can average about 1200 points a hand then you can easily beat the top score.

Hope that helps.

You are right, Xian Xi, it's doable. I just did not know that if you cleared the board you got another free chance to play, with that in mind, the dice game may be the easier one to enter the high score table (easier than the poker one at least, LOL)

Thanks!!

I'm thinking of buying a copy of this because of all the positive feedback on here but have a quick question. I usually buy Japanese AES carts because I prefer the artwork, but if I buy the japanese copy will it all be in Japanese? I want it to be playable.

If the bios in your AES is JP then it will play the JP version of the game with Japanese speaking and text, if your bios is US or Euro then it will play in English.

Thanks. I know that's the case with original AES games, I just wasn't sure if it would be the same for this release.

It is, however keep in mind that the games are very playable either in English or Japanese, because all you gotta do is remember the buttons for each game. They are in the same positions for English and Japanese. Also, you will be mostly reading numbers (scores) which are the same anyway.

Regards.
