OK, my cart came today...
So, being a Douglas Adam fan, I was stooked to see I was the lucky owner of the cart that answers all of life's questions, number 42, and the little touch of putting the serial number on the title screen of the game was so nice! Love it!
First off, everyone is right. This plays like a lost SNK title, more than an indie release. Fantastic presentation, and it's just so cool. Love it, Kurtz. You, and everyone involved, did a fantastic job.
Second, bummed about those high scores. I felt like I needed to cheat in order to get my name in
Making a hard BJ (cough) pay out at 10X does the trick, but double shame because that's the only way you see the credit roll, and you guys should take a bow and be seen.
In the future, I'd dial back on the high score requirements, mainly because if I'm playing with default settings, I won't even really play Mystic Dice that straight... Why bother? It would be much nicer to see my scores slowly creep up as I improve my strategy of play. Stick to something like 5th place being 100pts up to 1st being 500 or something and now we're playing against our high scores and not some hypothetical.
Minor niggle, but something worth noting for future endeavors... God I hope there are future endeavors.
I did encounter a few minor bugs, as well:
1. Minor design bug: In free play mode, the game shows "Credits 00" instead of "Free Play."
2. Minor design bug: The credit indicator cannot be turned off, though that may have been by design. Personally, I always turn those off for NG games. Probably the main reason my candy has no burn in.
3. The game also doesn't honor Demo/Attract Sounds being turned off in the soft dip settings. That's nice for a setup like mine where I leave the Neo running all the time. Unfortunately I can't with Knight's Chance because, well... it makes a lot of noise. Very minor, and I may be the only person who cares... but hey... I care.
4. It's already been called out, but yes, it won't advance to other games in a multi-slot on its own, which kind of breaks it in a multi-setup. Again, no big deal. I can see this being setup when we're having a little get together with friends and leaving it running all night so no problem there. I can also see it being a huge hit at a get together.
Seriously, this is a wonderful game and I was having a blast with it. Mystic Dice is definitely my favorite of the four, but every game is fun and plays really well. I also tried it in both Japanese and English settings. So cool you got that in there. I love it.
