Excellent stuff; I always enjoy seeing these sprite bead projects. I've thought of giving it a shot myself a few times (for some reason, I have the strange urge to make the woman with the pinball from Dragon's Fury/Devil's Crush's ending), but haven't done so yet.

that would look really cool, it would probably be huge too! They really aren't hard to do, just very time consuming. The ironing can also be a little annoying, but if you take your time and don't rush it, it comes out fine, I unfortunately am a very impatient person.

This is some really cool stuff, David! A buddy of mine on shmups has some at his house that his ex-gf made for him (Sonic, a couple other RPG characters) but nothing as extensive as your stuff. Man, if I only had the time I'd love to try doing something like this.

Can I ask where the best place to buy these beads at is? I'm really digging these and believe in myself in creating my own lol. I'd love to fill in the black spaces that don't have posters on my walls. These are great.. Who would have thought using beads as pixels to re created pixilated video game characters?... Genius!!

I know a lot of people who have started doing this the past 6-12 months. Most have limited themselves to altered MegaMan sprites, which were nice at first, but I got sick of seeing them. LWK, I dig what you're doing, but what drove you to start this? none of my friends give me a legit reason outside of the ones who got into this to make money.

On a side not, where the hell is my Grant mask sprite? :mr_t:

Here are some Robot Masters I made to put up on the wall of the game room

@JammaGuy: callahan13 on ebay is the distributor my wife and I got our beads from in bulk, otherwise, if you just want to dabble in it and test the waters, major arts and craft stores like Michael's carry the 1000 bead bags in basic colours.

@Giby: Bead art is very relaxing because you have to concentrate on fine details to the point where it's easy to tune everything else out. I don't care about making money from these because they are nice to hang on the wall as art, something with your own personal touch to it.

@LWK: Awesome work! Take a chance on the bigger sprites if you get the chance, they end looking great with the extra detail. Regardless, your work looks great!

The entire heroes breath of fire cast, and villains. I've done all of those based on existing sprite rips, I could not find these in a image search, so I did them myself. The hero and Bo I made are credited to 8bitcraft.

Have you been making the dragon? That's HUGE! How many panels to make the whole sprite?

ahh, perler bead art. I just didn't have a couple hundred dollars to invest to make anything good. My favorite thing I ever made was a Boo from mario bros. Props to the above. it's awesome.

WOW that is amazing, LWK

How do you get the sprite rips to create something like that?

TIA

There are a few resources online, like the Sprite Database where people can rip the sprites from a game, throw them on model sheets, and upload them to the site. Sometimes though, I've just used a screen cap of a scene from someone's run-through of a game, and blown it up.
