I collect loose MVS carts. About ten or so are complete kits but I keep all the extras shut away in the closet for collection consistency. My collection is complete, but I am still collecting the unofficial games as they're released. This photo is the most recent I've taken, but it's not up to date. It's missing the stuff that has been released since. I plan to reorganized it by NGH number for the next update. My collection is shared with my brother.

I'm out of the AES game since the late 90's. I recently started collecting Japanese NGCD games again though, and I have a few.

I have a consolized 2-slot. It's actually the same motherboard I've always used since 1997. I made the dirty supergun. I am thinking about upgrading the CMVS and supergun to RGB in the near future.

I've also included a messy picture to give you an idea of the range of consoles my brothers and I own, and what game nights are like at our place. It is by no means a complete representation of what systems we have though.

So how easy is it for you to identify which MVS game is which since so many of them in your collection have the Japanese label? Also, that's not a bad color for Matrimelee!

Your brothers sure like getting into other consoles as well. Must be nice to be more economical with your gaming dollar :)

It's no problem identifying since Japanese was my major, and two of my brothers also studied Japanese. I think no one should destroy or avoid the Japanese labels though. Unless you have a crapload of them it's not hard to remember which is which I'm sure.

We are generally pretty scrappy about collecting. Don't care too much about condition, except for particular collections. My brother who I share the Neo Geo games with has a complete mint PC-FX collection, and another has most of the Japanese Dreamcast collection in perfect condition. Other than that, most of our old stuff is a mix of mostly loose carts. I should post a pic of my Famicom Disk collection too.

OK, how many games are up there? 150+. How much do shockboxes cost these days? Like $10 each plus shipping? So shockboxing this collection would cost me at least $1,500, way more than I paid for any single one of the games on the shelf. Are there even that many shockboxes available? It would be hard to track that many down. Plus it would bulk up the size, causing me to have to put in at least another shelf to hold it. Finally, I don't like homemade stuff. I like to keep my stuff all OEM without any fanmade stuff. I worry about preserving the carts, so I'm working on a solution to that, but I think MVS games are meant to be loose carts.

+1. I prefer to see my carts on the shelf as they are as most of mine have clean and complete labels. Maybe shock boxes if you have a small collection and your labels are damaged

That’s a straight to the point get down to business MVS collection. I bet you are one of the very few on these forums that could actually read their Japanese title labels. How convenient!

That’s a bunch of consoles. Don’t imagine that your cables ever get tangled, lol. My wired headset and iPod earphones get tangled into terrible knots almost every time I set them down.

I'm with alec, love the pure approach, that's how Mvs was always meant to be. Fake art and shock boxes? No thanks!

There is something very nostalgic about the consoles everywhere that reminds me of my game nights/weekends with friends as a teenager. Classic.

I am actually about to set up my MVS games loose on some shelving and thought it would be a bad approach for cartridge protection and aesthetically. Now I know I was wrong. Looks good.

I am all for the loose MVS carts as well. IF I had the cash, shock boxes would be nice though....

First collection I am viewing. Of course it's a big one. Nice collection dude.

Same here. I just use a DVD shelf and they fit perfect, I can fit about 5-6 carts per shelf and it's fine for me as I usually only have about 20 carts at one time.

I'm with you too on the no shockboxes. They're nice and all, but take up more space. Plus if you're about the MVS then imho you're primarily about the games themselves, not making them all pretty. I keep all my MVS carts bare too, even the ones I originally got in kit form.

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate it.

More random crap laying out pictures... We usually take a photo every Christmas when I get together with my brothers.

So did SNK make that super gun for you? Get yourself a big red or super 29 and do it right then!

Also, awesome collection man.

I always liked the fact that you have a complete MVS set. I was about to do it but I couldn't bring myself to buying mahjong and quiz games that I can't understand. I do have everything else except for a handful of games that I haven't gotten thirsty enough to obtain. After the fever died I just never bothered, maybe someday.

Shockboxes are awesome for folks that enjoy the art of SNK, which is the very first thing that drew me to play the games, and guys (like myself) that enjoy doing their own thing with what they own. I replace labels if needed, make shockbox inserts or pick from the many others that fans have made and even edit them if I feel like it, clean my carts inside, do the whole ordeal. I care little for OEM, I don't care for manufacture specs, for me that's just following another guy's procedures on how to keep your stuff, screw that! Funny thing is I don't consider myself a collector, I'm a gamer that enjoys art and making things my own, if I didn't I probably wouldn't have build my own sticks, refurbished my cabs, make my own CMVS, etc.

If I didn't have shockboxes I wouldn't be putting up a bunch of gray labels up for display, seems pointless to stare at a bunch of black letters. In my case, the only games that I display are my shockbox MVS games, everything else is in a walk in closet. No need to make my place look like a gamestop, no need to stare at a bunch of CD cases and DVD cases.

I think MVS games are meant to be loose carts

I don't think MVS carts were meant to be displayed period but here we are...

Same here, my non-MVS games and Blu-Rays are in plastic storage drawers (it helps that I keep things to a minimum). I like to keep my space clutter free, with just art/posters for decoration. I don't really want to see my PS3 games on display, it just reminds me of how much time still needs to be spent catching up on them.

Honestly, when I collected home carts back in the day what drew me to them was the art and uniformity on the shelf. Mostly aesthetic appearance, since the gameplay was identical to MVS. Once I realized that playing on MVS was less expensive and an easier way to achieve native true RGB, it was the way to go. I know some people are anti-shockbox, but I like them just for the aspect of keeping things dust free and easy to identify on the shelf (or in a storage box) full of black lettering.

Nice collection Alec. I don't even recognize some of those systems. The SNES 2 is pretty sweet though.

Thought you had Last Hope Pink Bullets and Gunlord. Only saw Fast Striker there though.
