The color ram is the 5864 ram chips, they are in your pic.

edit, btw I think the ram chips in your pic are video ram, 5,6 video. 9,10 backup

I contradicted myself chips 9 and 10 are 5864 like I first stated but misread the pic, think I need glasses

9 & 10 aren't backup... those should be the color RAMs, a.k.a. Pallette RAMs.

The Backup RAM chips should have battery power on Pin 28 with the power to the board off.

Are the 5864 RAMs swappable with the 62256? Also what is RAM7 & 8? More Video RAM?

Negative, the 62256 is not a replacement 5864.

Here are the closet I could find, they are not a pin for pin drop in replacement but they are functional compatible

The neo has 4 video ram, 2 work ram, 2 backup ram and 2 color ram

7 and 8 are video ram

Dammit. Anyone got any from a parts board? Looks like not all MVS boards have these RAM chips.

I got some brand new chips that should work. Just let me know how many you need.

EDIT: Let me double check my stock. I know that I have 62256 but I'm not sure about 5864.

First of all, double check the connections:

As for replacements:

The only thing you could be unsure of is the pitch since original RAM is 450mil (11.43mm) while Mouser RAM is 330mil (8.38mm) and the datasheet doesn't have dimension drawings. The solder pad rows on the MVS board are about 9mm apart from each other but I think the 330mil in this case refers to the chip body, see for instance this RAM from a different manufacturer which has a perfect footprint for the MVS board. So I'm pretty positive the Mouser RAM will fit fine as well.

As for Digikey, they don't stock any drop-in replacements.

I know a place that sells them but they are asking for $11 a piece, I'd just rather buy a parts board for $20 or something.

Continuity is 100% according to that pinout.

Direct replacement? How much?

According to the datasheet, yeah. Not much. A few bucks and a little for shipping should cover it. Just me PM for the details.

Problem is fixed now. I was going over the board again on the underside and noticed two plate throughs that were connected via smaller than a hairline of solder and those connected to U9 and U11.

Then why are you not looking at my last post and quoting one from 7 years ago?
