I've been watching Durarara since it came on Adult Swim a few months back and I gotta say this show is so good in so many ways! My goodness, it's freaky!

Durarara!! is great, and yes, very weird. It requires some patience but I think the payoff is great.

Take it one day at a time. It requires some patience but by the third episode, you'll really be hooked. :)

Riding Bean and Gunsmith Cats. The car chase scenes are just too sick. I love the amount of detail in the cars. That doesn't exist anymore cuz they just use computers and half of the frames of animation and everything looks so stiff because of it.

Hand-drawn FTW. Love attention to detail? Area 88 OVAs y manga.

Full on jetplane porn.

Magazone23 is up next for me. Feeling nostalgic.

The whole second season is weird. Why they did this protagonist shift is beyond me. Also there must've been several people on the staff who thought "YEAH LETS ADD MORE LOLI ACTION" for some reason.

Oh snap! I watched some of Area 88 a few days ago. It wasn't bad at all.

There is a jet anime that I'm trying to find out but it's much more recent than Area 88. It should have come out around the early 2000s but it's not Yukikaze though. I've never actually seen it but I saw a magazine article about it where they looked at Japanese 15s and stuff for reference. After that article I've never seen anything else about it. anybody know of any other Jet Anime that came out around that time?

You might be possibly referring to that "Sky Crawlers" movie, which was based on a bunch of Japan-only novels published in the past decade. I make a point of seeing practically anything Mamoru Oshii directs, however I haven't gotten around to checking this one out yet. Pretty sure I saw some *very* brief promo snippets of it back in 2007. It looked promising. Hope that helps.

I'm w/ Stefan, for the date (2000s) you gave. Going back to the 90s; while no Area 88 by any stretch (comedy + fan service as opposed to gritty merc action), 801 T.T.S. AIRBATS isn't a bad way to kill 85 minutes. Now that you are on the flight line again, you'll no doubt feel for what the pilots put their fixer through.

Let us know when you find what you were thinking of!

just got out the damn hospital and anxious to get back to watching all the VOTOMS OVAs that Milkman X sent me in our VOTOMS exchange (I sent him OSTs and he sent DVDS), so right now I'm watching episode #2 of (as of this posting)

I've had "most" of the OVAs for years but never subtitled only in raw JPN. I'm loving it.

Got another HULU trial so I'm giving some more shows a checkout. Durarara! is good stuff and if you like that make sure to check out Baccano made by the same dude and is equally freaky. I did get to finally see how Inuyasha ended and the last season (Final Act) was essentially everyone constantly getting these insane powers or main characters dying. I'm still not sure if I liked how it ended or not :conf:

I watched the 1st episode last night too. It's so bad. Ronin/Cowboy show with absolutely no heart in it. One is better off watching Trigun, Outlaw Star, or Cowboy Bebop -- so much better even though those shows are now a decade old.

Just watched Eden of the East. It was pretty enjoyable, but I should probably rewatch it before I make a definitive opinion.
Prior, the best I've seen lately were Welcome to the NHK and Mushi Shi.
Some others I'm on the fence about (but mostly disappointed in) were Moonlight Mile (season 1), Darker than Black, Speed Grapher (bleh), Kurau (bleh).
