Does anyone happen to know if there has been any information about this being localized to the US? Maybe Aksys will do it like they did the first. If this was region-free like the newer Cave games, I would just spend $80 for it at Play-Asia.com but unfortunately that isn't the case.

Doesn't seem likely at this point that Aksys is going to be localizing anything soon.

From Aksys employee, posted a couple weeks ago:

"We were reasonably satisfied with the performance of Deathsmiles, but we are not currently pursuing any other similar games."

Yeah, I spoke to one of the guys over at Aksys and when I asked how DS was performing he didn't do much to hide his lack of enthusiasm.
That 360 face plate that came with the se boxed edition was completely un neccesary. They could have done without that and the additional packaging.

Add to the fact that the first death smiles seems to be superior over all to the sequal and you could see why Aksys would want to leave that one alone.

After the recent track record of thier shooters Cave needs to make most (if not all) of thier titles dual region.

Yeah, I'm enjoying Mushihimesama Futari, and plan on getting ESPgaluda II and Muchi Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets.

I haven't read anything about Deathsmiles IIX other than knowing its been out for a while in Japan. Had no idea it wasn't as good as the original.

It's debatable.

The general consensus is that DS2X has better gameplay, but many people find the full-3D graphics and visual style unappealing. The latter two don't bother me, though I will say that I prefer the overall look of DS1.

Yeah, DSIIX is one of the few games where I highly prefer the arrange mode over the original arcade mode. The game is a blast. Hopefully someone decides to pick it up, cause I'd love for more people to be able to play it.

Also, I'm quite shocked to hear of Aksys' feelings on how DeathSmiles sold. I'm not quite sure what they expected, especially considering the game sold more copies in the US than it did in Japan. Shooters are a very niche market, and for that, 50k+ copies sold is fantastic IMO.

More here than in Japan? Wow, cool.

If Aksys was disappointed in DS then they are clueless imo.

I get the impression that there's more to it than that. I think they're having issues with Microsoft with regards to the kinds of games they're releasing and the way they're marketing them. It would certainly help explain why Aksys doesn't plan to (or can't) localize the 360 port of Arcana Heart 3, while releasing the PS3 port on PSN (despite the fact that demand for the game is higher on the 360, something I'm sure they're aware of).

Game companies should be allowed to put out whatever game for whatever price they want (below a certain retail cap). I'd love to see more old compilations and value discs for $15-30. Instead MS and Sony clamp down on the companies providing niche games and 2D titles and force them to a certain price point or prevent them from releasing certain games at all.

Said good stuff.

yeah, gotta hate that crap. Saying no to 2D is stupid

I do understand the need to limit the perv marketing in games unfortunately though, media makes such a huge mess over them and it ends up distracting from whats important. I wish that people would stop associating the hardware manufacturers with the games on the system, that would allow them to be more open to software.

I don't understand why Cave just doesnt a) make everything region free or b) release everything in N. America

I cannot stand the fact some of their games are region free, and others are region locked. Just makes zero sense to me!

Before they can make something region free, they have to contact potential licensees to see if they're interested in localizing something. If they are, they region lock the game. If not, they make it region free. If a licensing deal goes sour after the game's Japanese release, it's too late to change the game's region coding.

I really like it that I will be able to play the game next week, didn't even know it was that close to coming out right after the double pack they did. Though I really wish they would release a physical copy of the game then a digital copy. I am glad their doing this though, I really wish G.Rev would consider doing this with Senko No Ronde 2 since the first one bombed here in the US. I wish Cave, G.Rev and any other companies that make shooting games would just release all of their games region free for everybody to enjoy. They don't need to be translated, if I ever need translation of anything I'll go to the interwebs.

Edit: This game was designed for HD Widescreen, right? I saw that cocksucker Japhei posted on the official Cave post saying "Add a true 4:3 mode to the game". So if that's the case I guess I'll just buy the double pack or Espy2 since I've yet to upgrade my TV to an HD one.

I didn't mean to sound so...well, meh.

The idea of a 30$ rental just bugs the piss out of me.

Glad a wider audience will get a chance to play.

I hate buying "digital". I'd pay more for disc in hand. Then if I dont like it, selling it is my prerogative. Digital is like herpes, you're stuck with that shit for life. :mr_t:

Games On Demand is only a rental?
I've never used it before, this is the first time I've even considered.

It's not a rental. You get to own the digital release forever. I think he's comparing it to a rental because you don't actually own a physical copy, and you can't sell/trade it.

I'm comparing it to a rental because I don't see the 360 servers being up 'forever'.

Are the GoD games handled any differently than xbla games in this regard?

One does not 'own' DDL titles. The (limited) rights to their use is what you pay for.

With the Wii for example...I came into possession of a used Wii. The dl'd titles on the system are now MINE not the person who originally paid for & dl'd them.

I understand that w/ the 360, the dls are tied to gamertag not system, and you can move content from one console to the other. What happens when we are no longer in this hardware generation?

Anyone have any luck replacing an original xbox GoD since they've no longer been available?
