Yeah, they deffo aren't audiophilia stuff.

They are useable work horse turntables, easily cueable etc...

Good stuff to play techno etc.. on

One day maybe, I have no phono inputs on my system so I'd need the matching pre-amp even before a turntable. :crying:

Vinyl FTMFW!:buttrock: Come on Kern you know you want to truly experience music on your Quad setup.

I really have enjoyed the world of vinyl. There is nothing like running across promo/radio issue in a record shop.

The brand of preamp doesn't have to be the same as the brand of turntable you're using. Just make sure it supports the cartridge type you use or better yet get one that does MC and MM.

------------------------

I'm in the market for a TV somewhere between 32 and 42 inches. I'd like it to look good without spending a lot of money; it will not see much use.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I was thinking about the quad pre-amp because it has both MC and MM phono stages, and erm provides me with the old red-and-white phono inputs which I don't currently have (only digital inputs).

Its tempting yeah but, I couldn't even use a turntable manufacturers phono amp if I wanted to, not without any manufacturers preamp anyway. :(

Would be a fair bit expensive. I don't have room to store vinyl either, maybe one day.

I like this thread...

I have a setup I'm really enjoying for 2.1 audio. As of now this is my current hardware:

Yamaha RXV-2700 reciever 140W x 7 @ 8ohms
Monitor Audio BR2 loud speakers on 26" Paradigm stands
Paradigm DSP-3100 subwoofer 600 watts Dynamic Peak / 200 watts RMS Sustained
Yamaha CDC-815 5 disc cd changer
Oppo DV-980H DVD player

For Video I have LG 37LC7d LCD panel.

I really like this setup. Previously I had Axiom M22 speaker. They were nice but as accurate as they sounded I always thought I was missing the mid bass punch I love so much. I replaced them with the Monitor Audio BR2 and I was really pleased with the results. Also this gave me the opportunity to BI-AMP the BR2s as I'm only using 2 amps in the reciever anyway, now I use 4 and the difference is outstanding.

The Yammy receiver.....The HDMI video section works, but leaves a bit to be desired. The audio section of this receiver can be described one way. BALLS. It has got tons of power.

The Yamaha CD player I purchased new in 1991 for over $800. To this day I can't find a player I prefer over it. Analog out on this thing sounds so good and I always choose it vs the receiver doing the DA conversion. The CDC-815 has digital out, a nice feature for a stand alone CD player but I think its analog out sounds so nice and natural. Plus it has digital EQ setting that can help those old compressed sounding 80s cds sound better.

The Oppo DVD player is great. Analog or digital audio out is nice, the DTS and Dolby stuff sounds fantastic and I can play SACD and Hidef audio CDs from this player.

The Paradigm subwoofer is just awesome. Its digital amp doesnt let you harm the speaker, and it is a good match for a reveiver with as much power as the RXV-2700. At 1st I went through about 6 cheaper subs and I found the hard way, with audio stuff, you get what you pay for. :-) Paradigm subs are worth every penny. They actualy are a good deal for the price you can get them for.

I think I've gone on enough. :-)

Question to you in search of high fidelity,

Is SACD bullshit?

Is SACD bullshit?

For me it is a format that I have no interest in. SACD does offer a high resolution 2CH tracks; some SACD offer 5.1 surround. I'm pure 2CH so the surround aspect does not interest me. Also, an artist you really enjoy may or may not have SACD albums.

Vinyl is where it's at for me, I love analog 2CH. So in my case, SACD is bullshit. However, you should investigate it for your self.

An old link that has been posted before, but woah!

:help:

I would personally sell it all and use the room / money for 2 channel stuff :buttrock:

You know fabio lanzoni is a true audio geek also , has a decent $1mill krell setup. There used to be a site with his inventory and pics of his setup including fancy upscalers, top end laserdisc and suchlike but its long gone now :(

RESIZE YOUR SHIT, NO ONE WANTS TO SEE YOUR AGED FAGGY AUDIO GEAR, AND BEFORE YOU GET AN IDEA, WE DON'T WANNA SEE YOUR DOLL PORN EITHER

He's posting the right stuff in the right place and without any creepy doll shit, so just leave him alone.

There's plenty of other places to mock if you feel so inclined so it's not cool to mess up a proper thread with unwarranted flaming.

My bad, he could at least resize his shit though.

BACK ON TOPIC:

I've been wanting to get some new turntables as mine is not only old as hell, but they don't spin fast enough when set high enough. (I blame scratching) Are there any fairly good tables out these days that I should look into?

What I dont get is why anyone would want all that stuff, sure some of its cool, I like the ELITE dvd player, I guess thats about it though.

I have a cd player and an amplifier, not all this other shit getting in the way and providing a big chain of shite complicating things.

it ain't "shite" and it doesn't complicate things.

every component in the audio chain has it's own, dedicated input,
the purest possible connection...

My cd player goes from internal dac->power amp

There is no shorter signal path.

And I understand your liking for 80-90's gear, like that 1988 cd player, but it doesn't compare to modern equipment, sorry, its low end consumer stuff pretty much, even the 'reference' gear. No true audiophile would have a system comprised of pioneer equipment, sure for a surround setup maybe as they make some of the best televisions, but not for a 2 channel system - the products they make simply aren't good enough in that area and are consumer items.

Brand loyalty is nice, but ..

Yeah, like kerneaux said, the sl-1210 still is the industry standard. From what I've heard from friends who are more into turntablism, as opposed to just straight up beat mixing, that Vestax also delivers good products.

This thread makes me feel like a piece of shit...

My current system is weak and only supports my kick ass gaming area...for those that know it...my former home theater was pretty great...I had it tuned just right for the room, I really miss it sometimes...

Anyway...now I have my gaming area in that spot...

Ok...I'll post a pic of it, thanks for the interest....

Game_room_Nov_09.jpg

I finally did what I set out to do some time ago...hook up all of my often played systems in a manner that is easy to use. Digging out all the shit to play one game got irritating...so much in fact I stopped doing it because of the frustration of finding crap.

I currently have hooked up:

NES "toaster" (composite video, mono RCA audio)
SNES (S-Video, stereo RCA)
PS2 (S-video, stereo RCA)
JVC X'EYE (composite video, RCA audio)
Gamecube (component video, RCA audio)
Neo MVS (S-video, RCA audio)
Marantz DVD (component video, RCA audio)

I have it all hooked up through a video selector...works great. Everything runs to an old JVC Pro Logic receiver...not great but I had it sitting around (bought it new in 1998). It's hooked up to my two B&W 601 S3's left over from my home theater and some older Jamo bipole surrounds from way back.

The QSC amp in the pic is running my 12" sub that's upstairs hooked up to my current "movie system" (I have a different cabinet now...need to update that pic):

Setup_2008.jpg

When I sold my home theater I bought that 42" LG LCD, Yamaha YSP 3000 sound bar (surprisingly good for what it is), Outlaw Audio ICBM (bass management for the sub) Rane BB22 (takes the unbalanced RCA sub output and converts it to XLR so I can run it to the basement), Tivo HD, Playstation 3 and HDDVD player...it's ok for now...

Brand loyalty is nice, but ...

-but you'd be SURPRISED just how good PIONEER's best
actually sounds. believe me, i DO actually have a good set of ears,
and the PD-3000/91 - VSX-D1S - CS-G503 chain i had was positively
JAW DROPPING, i'm SERIOUS.

to make an embarrassing and long story short, i ruined my first PD-91
in a stupid attempted mod about a year ago.
i'm currently working on getting a new one , but it
ain't easy, as they are RARE, and only usually show up a
couple times a year...

I don't know that I agree with mass consumer companies can't or don't make audiophile stuff. I think most serious names out there have very high end components. Yammy, Pioneer, Denon, Sherwood NewCastle, Parasound, all have worthy products in the arena.

My issue always comes down to speakers. I see some people have all this great equipment, and then all hooked up to Japanese speakers. I've always known speakers made or even designed in Japan to not be all that great no matter what they cost. They have never had respect with anyone I know who is into higher end audio. Not to say they have never made good speakers, but most are made in Canada or America are re-branded. British, American and Canadian speaker companies have traditionally been known as the best. Hell, I think the Canadian government funds audio research...

Anyway @ MT , you might like all your Pioneer gear better played through some Axiom or Monitor Audio speakers with a nice sub. Speaker technology has come a hell of a long way since paper woofers.

the CS-G503s as is sound truly spectacular, they honestly do,
but i actually have been considering an upgrade,
to a pair of PIONEER DSS-9;

DSS-92.jpg

DSS-91-1.jpg

i realize there is far better sound out there than what i currently have,
but i am rather satisfied right where i am. plus, i do actually like
japanese speakers. still, thank you very kindly for the advice... :)
