I think because it makes the game a little easier. Cave seem to put slowdown at the most difficult points in their games. It's like "yeah, we know you can't handle this, so we'll pretend your system is having a hard time crunching all the data."

Yeah, Cave slowdown is actually intentional for the most part. It's not due to the hardware bogging down. It's strategically placed with some thought behind it.

I kind of figured, but doesn't that mean that the design is somewhat flawed, then? I mean, if the only way you can play it is with slowdown, maybe they should only have six million bullets on the screen instead of six million and one.

Anyways, slowdown has always bugged the shit out of me, and I don't get why people are upset if it isn't there (in some cases).

Because if you remove the slowdown it changes the difficulty of the game, and then it doesn't line up with the arcade release. People that want the original experience are disappointed and you also can't compare scores across platforms.

Some of Caves slowdown is intentional for dramatic effect, and some is due to hardware limitation. Cave admitted this in an interview not too long ago.

Anyone who doesn't think they have any hardware-limited slowdown go play DFK Black Labal. There are some spots where the game crushes the hardware.

I think he meant the original game design, not specifically the ports. And I'd agree with that. They should rearrange the bullet patterns to make the game a little easier rather than resort to fake slowdown.

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant.

The feeling of having slowdown during fever mode actually increases the sensation of the game. It's like having the dramatic effect during a tense movie where you're counting down the frames as they slowly flip by trying to maximize the experience, except you're doing it with points.

I haven't been a fan of slowdown, but if it's built in by the manufacturer it just becomes part of the game to me and I never notice it if the game is superb. I saw MS2 played without slowdown and it felt fake because I'd never experienced it that way initially.

If they want to implement slowdown into the game, it should be done as a feature, such as kakusei in EspGaluda, and not something out of the blue that just happens for no apparent reason.

If they didn't put the girls ages on the select screen (the oldest being 17, the youngest is 11) it wouldn't seem half as creepy. ;) The game is groan-worthy so many times, and my God some of that final music makes me laugh. It's still a beautiful game, though... and it plays really good. I wish they'd toned down the loli-pop nature of it, but it doesn't keep it from being a good game.

Aye, tis true. The ad copy on the back of the box is groady to the MAX. Ugh. And this ish doesn't get any better with DSIIX- the gals in that are 'tweens. That coupled with DSIIX's 3D nature means i'm tentative at best for the sequel.

To each their own, I guess, but I always notice slowdown (even a split second of it) and I always find it jarring and distracting. It interrupts the smoothness of the gameplay to me. I find it unfathomable that people complain when it's not there (to be fair, I've seen this mentioned more in other forums, not here).

Cave shooters are really the only place you'll see people complain when it's not there. Like others have said it enhances the game play, not detracts from it like in almost all other games. You'll just have to put some time in with these games and you'll understand what we're talking about.

There needs to be more on PS3!!! Soldner x2 is amazing though

Shooter fans just need to buy a 360, because these games seeing light of day on PS3 are just slim to none. The teams that make them are far too small and have such limited resources... plus you've got Sony's policies about games like this being released on their platform.

The only worthwhile shmups I can play on the PS3 are all PS2 titles, which don't work well with the newer lcd tv anyways.

Only reason I even still own a PS2: to play the shooters exclusive to it. Otherwise, I would have zero interest in keeping it.

What kinds of Sony policies are you referring to?
